No Trim

Post by mtodd1402 »

New to me, 2001 246 with 8.2 VP. Day three with the boat, trim worked normally on days one and two, but today, no trim.

I can hear the the relays clicking when I activate the trim switch up and down, but the hydraulic trim motor does not appear to pump fluid.

I did check the fluids and it is mid-way between low and high, so that doesn't appear to be the issue.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Where are the fuses/circuit breakers for the trim motor located, hopefully it is something that simple?

In the worst case scenario, what's the manual over-ride procedure so the outdrive can be lifted at the ramp?

You might try tapping on the solenoids mounted to the trim pump. Sometimes the internal contacts get hung up. Otherwise, it's a matter of swapping out the solenoids. Easy project with approx. $30 ea. in parts.

Holy Smokes, you’re 100% correct. Tapped them and they’ll cycle. Probably going bad, I’ll replace those solenoids just to be safe.

Update: Replaced both up and down relays, total cost $33. Works really well now.
