Anyone know how tall a R6 Surf on trailer is going to be?

Post by tfarmer »

I had to have my garage modified in order for my current R5 to fit through the garage door. Basically modified the trusses, raised the garage door header to allow another two foot section of door to be added. Now I’m thinking about going the R6 Surf route and have been told the Surf version sits higher on the trailer due to the forward drive engine. In my current setup I have about 4-5” to spare with the tower down, light unscrewed on top of tower, and then the tower manually pulled down even further and tied off as low as it will go.

Expensive boat.

But I feel you - mine ended up costing me a vacation house near a lake.

I think you'll need to get that information from the dealer. In the mean time, if you need an extra 2', maybe the most cost efficient method would be to jack the whole garage up and add to the structure below the existing and then set it down again?

I've seen this done when I had the concrete floor replaced under the single car garage at my last house. they Dailed 2 x 6 onto the inside of the garage parallel to the ground and used those old style "bumper jacks" placed around the interior walls jacking evenly around the perimeter and then blocked the garage up from the outside using beams (that part isn't necessary here).

It would be nice if the R6 Surf would fit through the current opening, but if not, I think you can still make it work.

I was just going to suggest what BobRae stated. Jack the garage up and pour a 2' concrete "sill" (Im not a contractor) and set it back down. Then you will have room for your next 2 boats, you will need a new place for the 3rd.

I have seen a house raised for a new basement this way and the home owners never even moved out during the process. I am only guessing this would be breeze compared to that.

Good memory BB! Yes I did dig the opening of my shed down about 6” during the summer. I have a gravel floor and easy access to skid loaders so it just seemed natural. I move dirt for a living... Then I just added a temporary panel on the bottom of the door to keep critters out.

I have since added the bimini slide rails to lower the bimini to the same height as the windshield so my R5 fits in with room to spare. The thought has crossed my mind many times to cut the poles off and jack my shed up 2 more feet so I can have 12’ doors. Maybe even go up four more feet and have 14’ doors, go big or go home!

I would say if you are close to not fitting with a non surf you won’t fit with the surf model because the trailer bunks have to be so much higher to keep the props off the pavement.
