2004 Cobalt 282 Amp Location Questions

Hello. I’m relatively new to the forums. I’ve searched but haven’t found anyone with these questions.

Does anyone know if there are original/stock amps in an ‘04 282? If yes, where are they located?

I’m looking to upgrade this spring and trying to determine the best location for new amps.

We never use the head so I was thinking of mounting the amps on the wall directly behind the head unit. There’s nothing on the wall except the light for the head. I’m thinking there’s plenty of room so there won’t be overheating issues and it’s a dry space.

Other location I was thinking about would be in the storage in front of the helm. Drawback to this is running the amp inputs from port to starboard.

Would like opinions on this or other locations to place the amps.

Hey VTD-d...welcome to the CobaltChat forum. So glad you found us!

Those locations will work very well. Also consider under the rear seat on the engine firewall panel. That's where we have two amps mounted (JL Audio M800 and a Wet Sounds Sinister Six) in our 263. Our 262 had them there as well. Very protected and won't get banged around or wet.

Any pics of your 282? That's an amazing model with twins.

Hey guys. Searching my first stereo upgrade for my 282 also. I want to add subs and upgraded speakers. And also also. Mine has the factory Sony system with amp in the dry storage (fold up starboard front cushion) where table is stored. Not sure what power. Where can you place two 10” or 12” subs? Probably just upgrade stock speaker locations.

And what about separate battery options to avoid “key on” and hour meter? Lithium batteries?
