Parts

Post by Lukeoforcas »

Planning on replacing the waterpump(circulation not raw) on my 96 7.4Gi. It looks like a standard short big block pump. Can I get an aftermarket aluminum replacement for it? At first thought I wasn’t sure about adding aluminum into the cooling system but the intake already is. I already have a fresh water closed system installed.

If you have a fresh closed system you can. My question is why unless the pump is failing.

You use coolant in your closed system right? Has it always been a closed system since the engine was new?

Unknown if since new, I bought it 3years ago. It’s a San Juan Cooling system and appears to be from the 90’s(the hoses were all date coded) Yes, it’s running coolant. The pump is weeping a tiny bit of green after it’s warmed up. Plan is new pump, thermostat, hoses and belts. I’m at 1700 hours. Going for 2k.

I personally would put a volvo water pump on. It lasted 1 70 hours. Can't bitch about that!
