Preventing storage compartments slamming down

Post by NW Dave »

Maybe a silly question but wondering if anyone has tried to address this at all. The ice cooler cover/seat cushion and the one opposing it for the storage compartment, trash bin, fire extinguisher - both of these when shutting have resistance until about halfway down then slam shut. When others are on the boat, they aren't aware and especially youngsters. The slamming is jarring for everyone. Has anyone figured out a good way to dampen this somehow?

Mine on my R3 don't slam shut like that...the seat cushions are tight enough there is resistance....but what about putting in 4 or 6 of those little rubber cabinetry door dampers with the adhesive backing?

R6 Surf. From about halfway down they slam down. Will try cabinet rubber standoffs and see if that helps.

Thanks

Have you talked to the dealer? That shouldn't be happening, perhaps something needs adjusted.

I haven't yet and not sure there's much they can do here to fix it given the design. You can see it in this walkthrough video where the guy is holding onto it all the way shut and it still makes a good thunking noise. If you don't hold it, it will swing downward much quicker with about 30 degrees to go and make a louder sound than in the video here. Cooler compartment door is the loudest of the bunch.

12:45 is where to start watching if curious.

Haven't had a chance to get back out on her yet with rain and colder weather the past few days but will be back on her later this week and have a few items from Home Depot I'm going to try out.
