Soft Trac material on both sides of drop down swim step?

Post by Lifelongbtr »

Is there a reason they only install the material on one side? It seems there is clearance to have it installed on both sides, and would be nice to have.

Anyone tried this?

This is what he is talking about. When you have the step flipped down basically you have lost half of the softrac

They should at least have it on the "seating" section of the swimdeck

So I see the new r series have it on the deck which is fixed, under where the step pulls out which is nice, but not the other side of what flips down, so when you get out of the water, or sit in the water, there’s no material there. Assume it’s because it will likely get dirty and get marks on it, but it’ll be underwater so I don’t see that as an issue. Wondering if I can buy the piece on top of the flip down and just install it on the other side, and still have it latch correctly.

I'm sure you can buy a piece or just buy some and cut it yourself. It's easy

Yes, just wondering if anyone has done this, and if there are any issues, like it won’t lock closed because there’s too much material, etc.

Put a 3/8'" or 1/2" piece of wood there and see if it will close. Or maybe some folded cardboard.

It can be done. Our installer used a thinner piece of the same material so the step could close properly. If it's too thick, it won't close.

That’s what I’m talking about!

Couple of questions, did the boat originally come with the soft trac, and if so did it have material already on the fixed platform? I’ve seen that in other pictures. Lastly, any idea what thinner material was used, another brand maybe? Appreciate the info and pics.

Probably need to use 3mm so you will not be able to have a design or border Try sitting area first .Two colors would be a 6mm sheet .Which might be to big for the older R series. Let me know if it works so I can do the same. :)

The boat did not come with the soft trac. It was installed after I purchased it. The installer was HydroDeck Marine Flooring (www.hydrodeck.com) located in the Atlanta area. I've had to clean it a few times from dirty feet and it cleans-up great. Very happy so far.

The R6 has soft trac on both sides (at least mine does).
