Installed the shiny bling yesterday.long winter ahead. Can't wait to try these babies out. I'm almost tempted to go and rewinterize it.lol
Set of 4x4 Hill Marine signature f6 props.

Quick little update. I bought these a year ago and I was very disappointed in them. I think they actually are just one pitch too high. I fought all summer to get them exchanged. Horrible cust. Service. After I get this solved I'll go into that later. They Say you should use the same pitch so I did. They also say they will exchange it. Well now the season came to a end they said they should be ready to exchange them. So I sent them out Monday for only $85 shipping.lol they got them Wednesday. So I was hoping I would get them by today. I know wishful thinking. I wanted to run them this weekend. So maybe next weekend. I really didn't want to send them back because now I have nothing. All I had before was a $1000 set of anchors. I was trying to sell them without losing too much money but no luck. Cross my fingers the new ones are good. I was going to have them reworked from bblades but they couldn't adjust them enough and it was the cost of new ones.

Fingers crossed BB ..

Curious on your results.. As mentioned these duo props are not the cleanest through the water at high speeds.. Almost need a Imco shorty duo-prop to free them them up . owell we like great cruise speeds anyway..

Also try clocking them as Bravo 3 so they don't meet under the cav plate. Some say it makes a difference in speed

Thanks. Yea I've clocked them. No difference. But thats how I always install them. I wasn't trying to get more speed. Just different performance. If I would have water tested the boat first I would prob never have ordered them. The factory ones were pretty impressive with the gxi engine. On my old gi that one needed to get woken up. I think the f6 prob would have been great on the gi that had f8's on it.

Hey Matt.

Just curious.
Would you be able to expand on this? Had not heard that theory before. I believe you're saying to install the props so the blades are not aligned when meeting under the cavitation plate as they spin. What is the science behind that to help increase speed?

Thx brutha.

Yes that's what they mean by clocking them. I don't believe it has anything to do with speed just air around the props At certain times. But I believe at one time anyways the props well meet up under the plate. That's why I don't think it matters. It may have just been me but I thought I felt a slight vibration when it wasn't clocked on one of my boats. I really don't think it matters to be honest but I'll always clock them anyways.

I got clocked one time but it had nothing to do with props.

So your saying on the install you just align them on the splines so they don't line up? I'm about to change drive fluid before mine get put to bed for winter and I'll have to pull the props to drain. I'm glad I learned this, otherwise I would have just stuck them back on.

It goes back when Mercruiser said that on "Bravo 3 / Black hawk duo" that prop alignment or phasing should be set as that the blades should not meet at the 12 o'clock position under the ventilation or as some say cavitation plate as it can increase a slipping at higher speeds due to air being captured.

I get the idea and mine are set so they don't pass each other at the same time under the plate. or at least close as it twins so you aren't going to be perfect.

You would have to do a back to back test with them at WOT and cruise speed to be sure. ( I don't want to try ) But if your looking for optimum efficiency.. I would do it... as its only the rear prop your messing with until they don't meet on top when turning.

Example Front blade tip at 12 Oclock. Rear Blade tip at 6 O'clock ( on 3 blade system)

4 blade system just offset them with the front blade at 12
.
They find the same spot every time regardless of how they are installed so there is no rocket science involved.. thank god for that!!

Now that you mention it, I remember seeing that set-up on the Donzi BlackHawk drives as well when I had my Sweet 16.
Thanks.

Pic of course is worth a 1000 words....so, here's a 3 bladed pic in addition to BBp's 4 blade above...(plus Donzi's are so sexy :D ):

Yt buy a o ring for that drain bolt before you pull it off. Sometimes they are good and sometimes not. It would suck not to be able to put it back together because you don't have a oring. For Alsan the drive gear lube drain bolt oring :-)
