Sorry if this topic has already been started.
I have an '07 Merc 6.2L MPI with 350 hours on it. I been reading several topics around getting your ECM flashed/tune that will increase power output. Whipple Supercharges offers an ECM tune Stage 1 for my motor. Link here: https://whipplesuperchargers.com/index. ... uct_id=273
My questions are: Has anyone completed this tune and if so are you happy? Is it worth it? A general question for anyone: Would this cause more harm to the engine than the happiness of the power increase? I don't want to be happy for a year and then need to rebuild the motor.
Any thoughts from the group would be helpful.
P.S. - I wish I had the 8.1L, but I don't.

Don't bother. If you have a stk engine you are now going to gain much of anything. It takes alot to gain even 1mph.

Out of curiosity, if he gained 100 hp, would he need to re-prop in order to reap the benefits of the extra power?Big Block Power wrote: Mon Aug 02, 2021 8:48 pm Don't bother. If you have a stk engine you are now going to gain much of anything. It takes alot to gain even 1mph.
Usually hot rodding involves chasing down the next weakest component and upgrading...

Yes normally. It all depends on what you are trying to achieve.Mike in SC wrote: Sat Aug 14, 2021 8:59 amOut of curiosity, if he gained 100 hp, would he need to re-prop in order to reap the benefits of the extra power?Big Block Power wrote: Mon Aug 02, 2021 8:48 pm Don't bother. Re: Merc 6.2L ECM Tune - Whipple
I had Whipple flash my ecm on my 200 hp Verado a few years ago (I THINK it was a 2005). I want to say it was about $800. I had noticeable improvement throughout the entire rpm range. Better holeshot. Insane power going from 35mph-60+ mph if I pinned it, and then the top end was about 9 mph (sog) faster. I did not reprop because I already had a custom Rev4 on there and I liked the way she performed. It was a while ago, but I think it was customized to about a 20.5 pitch. I know my rpm horn didn't sound until about 6800-7000 rpm afterwards. If I had that boat back today, I would not have done the flash. Not that it wasn't great. I just never really NEEDED that power in the first place - it was just pretty cool lol.
Obviously my V-rod was a considerably different powerhouse than your 6.2. I just thought I'd offer my experience with whipple. I know when I did mine, more people seemed to be using Simonpowersports.... or Simonmotorsports..... to do theirs. I apologize, I can't remember what their name is. But I was happy with Whipple

The member Whipple263 went through this with his Merc. He reported very good results. Might be worth sending him a message
