Markus take a hard look at towing with that cover on. You'll likely have scuffs and marks all over the boat from the wind and flapping. If you have a snap on bow and cockpit cover and if it's tight enough you should be okay. Some say it's fine to tow with a cover on but I've always had marks on my boat that I have to buff out. Just a thought.
I have zip-tied soft towels around all of the straps that come in contact with the gel coat and that works pretty good. And you thought you're anal!

Hey Markus.. yes.. YT is dead on unless you shrink wrap it to the rub rail.. better to clean the interior then color sand and buff the gel coat.. short tows with the oe covers to under rail are ok.
I'm still wanting that tower. .. no worries on modifying covers.. it's just going to have two flaps!
If you need my hin number let me know for your anchor pieces. You can get part numbers then start calling everyone on the planet.
Looking forward to you getting her pal!! youre gonna love it!!

Thanks for the cover advice. They are tonneau covers and I was going with a complicated scheme of tie down straps and small workout towels accidentally "appropriated" from the gym over the years. I have always towed with a cover but largest was Chris Craft 24 Launch so that was maybe more protected by truck?
I spoke with Rich at Cobalt customer service and they don't have the SS bow cover plate any longer (whole assembly is one part number). Crap! I am going to have to have them custom fabricated I think so might be requesting dimensions from you Matt. Sorry in advance.
I am going to videotape tower installation and will post once complete. (will edit and I promise it won't be six hours long:)) Pretty simple install seemingly but like everything else with a boat....'
Thanks again for all the advice and help.
Mark.

Hi All,
1. It is almost boating season!! Going to pick up 282 on May 11. Survey was good and everything is a go. Cannot wait to actually belong in Cobalt Chat by having an actual operating boat
2. Could not coordinate Samson tower and required cover / canvas modifications while boat was not in my possession. Getting boat home and then having dealer here install tower then I can take it directly to canvas company and they can do mods. Did not want to leave boat uncovered for multiple weeks or tow it halfway across country without covers (anal I know). Samson is holding tower for me and they have been really patient and helpful while I screwed around with this.
3. Now more requests because everyone has been really helpful with all my neediness or y'all are just pitying me. Either way i'll gladly accept the help:) Anyone have a parts manual or ideas where I can obtain the part numbers for the stainless steel plates, both exterior on the bow/hull and interior in the anchor locker, which allow for anchor rode to pass thru? My local Cobalt dealer isn't providing great information and is really slow in responding. (in their defense this is crazy season for boat prep and launches)
Hello Markus
Hopefully everything went well with the transaction ,and you’ve been enjoying your summer.
Just wanted to check back in with you, and have you give us an update!

Hi, As you can see from delay in response much fun was had this summer with boat. Highlight was running around Georgian Bay at cottage and watching Blue Angels with family and friends in Traverse City MI. One update was once I got the boat home I really liked the lines and decided against putting a tower on it. Thanks for checking back in. How has your season been? Hope all is well.

Glad to hear Marcus.
I agree on the look and profile with the 282. I wish Cobalt would do a “ Hideaway Bimini “ like Chris Craft does. It’s been a great season with ours, and I’m stretching October as I go on vacation next week with all my east coast family coming out. Yep it’s boating with a hoodie season.
Post up your pics and glad she’s a family favorite!

Hello Markus... this is a super old thread I know but did you ever get the fabricated windlass modification done? I have an 06 282 that I would love to do this to if possible.

Hey Drew. Thanks for coming out of the woodwork. The windlass Sailor69 designed for his Cobalt documented on this site is quite impressive. Hopefully you can incorporate that craftsmanship into your 282.
Here’s the link....

Samson Sports has no record of making this tower. Any other info that might help me in having one made? Thanks. Ron

Bring the boat to Samson and they will make one for it though.

Yep she wanted me to bring mine there from Wisconsin to modify it. I guess how bad to you want it is what it comes down too?
