It was plug and play AJC. I swapped an older unit. Yes, did it myself.
It will lose the presets though if you turn your battery switch off.

Just run a pwr wire directly a battery to keep your memory alive. Yellow head wire I think.

That's one of the reasons I bought my Clario. I can kill the power and not lose my presets.

My current Sony doesn’t lose the presets. Wonder if my system is partially wired to battery

I asked my dealer about presets with power off bc my boat keeps them recorded when off. It is how mine is wired not the head unit. I need to decide CD player or not.

All head units take a constant power wire and a switched lead to tell it to turn on and off. I have my switched lead run to one of the Aux dash switches so I can leave the head unit on without powering on any of the other stuff that comes on with the key in the Accessory position. Also makes it super easy to kill the music if I'm docking or something without taking eyes off what I'm doing to reach down and find the volume knob.
For the MEX-M100BT, the internal amp is powerful enough to pull more current than the factory wiring in my boat can provide, so it shuts off when bass hits and the volume is up high. I'm going to be running a larger gauge dedicated power and ground wire here in the near future, then going to use the original power and ground for one of these:

I got my MEX-M100BT installed with a set of Polk DB651 speakers and I love it. I ran this 10 Gauge wire kit from the output lug on my dual battery switch up to my head unit to prevent the power issues from undersized wire.

Just as a follow-up to this...I ran a dedicated 12 gauge circuit for the head unit, and the shut off issue is gone. It was shutting off when volume was high and bass hit, or when I'd turn on our air pump that was plugged into the cigarette lighter socket. Both issues are corrected now. I ran the ground to the ground bar mounted on the transom, and the positive lead off the battery selector switch with a 15 amp fuse inline. For now I coiled and taped up the factory power and ground leads, might add additional power outlets, not sure yet.

BTW are any of your guys using the SongPal app with the Sony HU? To switch the wiring over I had to cut power to the HU, and all of my audio settings were lost. I put them back in manually, but it looks like you can use the SongPal app to set everything up much easier. Will probably do that next time.
