If your wench is 3/4 of your boat weight, you have big issues.

As far as winches go, I don't know the rule on sizing so I would have to Google and would probably read the same things you did. I will tell you I went with one of the ones that is enclosed and it has done a good job keeping the sun of the strap.

I mean he is right....average boat weight around here is 4,500lbs, thats a 3,400lb wench. Anyone w/ a wench that large needs to be getting this guy on the phone STAT.

Yea I caught mine on sale too and free shipping so it wasn't that bad sort of. I still went with a heavier wench strap.

Hey at least we are all on the same page now talking about wenches...errr I mean winches.

Btw vans, be careful with the winch handle on that model. They are universal and many folks like to steal them due to its quick disconnect feature. Don’t ask me how I know.
I always carried a spare winch handle in the truck. Otherwise boat retrieving can be a little tough without one.

Our current trailer has the handle bolted on making thievery a little less likely.
