I started with the small and had to trade up to a large. Haven't had any issues with the large so far. The small would grab quickly, but if I gave it a strong pull it would let go. Took me 3 hours to set it last time we camped. The large I pretty much just drop in, drag a few feet until it grabs, and forget it. Recommended scope is 2:1, and I have my anchor line marked every 10 feet for reference so I know about how much I should let out.

They collapse flat for storage. The large (barely) fits in my front anchor locker, so that's where I keep it. It's heavy, and usually brings up a bunch of crap along with it, which is a pain since you have to hang over the edge and wash the mud off, but I'll take it for an anchor that's easy to set. As far as breaking loose, it seems to come up easy when you're over top of it. I did have once when I had to reverse direction and back the boat up...I think it was stuck in a tree on the bottom or something.

Just ordered a small box anchor from Amazon. Wondering if I should have ordered the large. 232 Cobalt, based at Lake Havasu.

If you ordered Slide Anchor brand, they are HQ'ed at Havasu and will trade your small out for a large for the difference in price. Great guys over there.

If you ordered Slide Anchor brand, they are HQ'ed at Havasu and will trade your small out for a large for the difference in price. Great guys over there.

Yeah, I will stop in next time we are there. Might need to upgrade to a powder coated one as well.

Yes, super friendly at Slide Anchor HQ. The let me exchange for the difference in price no problem. Bought a bunch of other stuff including a slide anchor there and lines.

edit: The guys at Slide Anchor said the small would be fine at Lake Havasu, but really suggested a medium since we go to Lake Powell.

I don't think they make a medium anymore. Small or Large. I'd go with the large...small is marginal on our size boats..it'll hold ok as long as there's no wind. Add some wind or current to the mix and it pulls loose or drags. I don't see how the size of the lake matters, it's more about conditions.

So you start off by saying size matters and end with size doesn't matter ?

Yep, I upgraded to a Large.

Ryan at Slide Anchor wasn't referring to the size of the lake, but bottom conditions and wind is why he suggested the larger size.

Chain is definitely going to help, the more the better. Also I would stick with the danforth/fluke type anchor imo they work the best for most any bottoms. Scope is a huge thing as well when it comes to holding power. We anchor almost every weekend in our 36 Carver and I have learned over the years the more scope you have the better. Busy anchorages can limit this. We usually run a 7 to1 scope in calmer weather seems to hold us great and have never had an issue with not holding and have slept many nights on the hook.
