I think the R2D2 should hit the water before any of them

The R? It’s starting to age fast, and it’s their cash cow..their bread and butter. It’s almost in desperate need of an update. A year too soon is always better than a year too late.
The R series fits the family demo and a price point where it sells like hotcakes.
I think we can assume they will slap an updated label, such as even numbers.

I would gamble that the R”6” debuts in dealerships before the A29.
It would replace Cobalts best/hottest selling model. Should be an instant hit. The 29? I wouldn’t be surprised if we never see it. I find a single, one off boat with a weird and expensive roll up mat a little peculiar. Am I alone in this thinking?

Right there with you buddy! As no other marketing promotions as with the ginormous A36 are surfacing I believe your spot on.
I was doing a model year run in my head as each model seems to be 5 years like automotive mfg to create new urgency obviously.
I see the R5 and R7 daily at the shop and they’re still better looking than the A29. But your right as we see the recent gambles taken to create wow.

I too saw the post on Facebook. I’m a little peeved if it’s true, as I just purchased a ‘19 R5. Honestly, my gut feeling is that with the marriage of Malibu and Cobalt, I think we’re going to see some new hull designs in the lineup, maybe even a more luxurious v-drive???!! Unless the R6 is a marked difference, I don’t see it depreciating the value of the R5s much.

I hadn’t thought about model changes when I decided to move from the 210 to an R3 this year, but I liked what I saw at the boat show last year and this year so I’m satisfied with my decision to buy an R3. If an R4 replaces my model in one or two years, so be it.

When I was shopping for a boat in winter 2017, I sat in a 2016 210 and a 2018 220. In my view the newer boat didn’t seem as well out together in the interior as the older 210. Somehow the cushions didn’t seem as nice. I wondered at that time if the boat industry follows the car industry in finding shortcuts to save cost to maintain a selling point. They call this “de-contenting”. Of course the 220 is still a beautiful boat.

When I learned a private company (Cobalt) was acquired by another larger company, I wondered if the new owners would try and find ways to de-content future boats to improve profit. Hopefully that won’t be the case with future Cobalt models such as the rumoured R series changes.

I would have, but the post itself wasn’t much. Grey back ground, text just said something like “The new R6 is looking hot.”. Not an exact quote, but gives the same info. The secret sauce was the comments I quoted.

I spent 2 years thinking R5 or R7. Actually A25 was in there too but they solved that for me by canceling it. An R6 would have been an easy decision. As it turns out I have an R5 arriving first of June. Anyway, someone posted a photo of a Mad Max looking Cobalt hull on a trailer at a gas station with a center console but basically an unfinished interior and top. It also looked like it had an A25 style contoured side. I’m guessing that was the first iteration of this boat and was used to test the hull. Can we run a pool on this? My money says A26 center console. An R6 just updates a best seller where as a Center console opens a new category for a growth hungry company (cheaper than buying Boston Whaler). Where do I send my $5 ($7 Canadian)?

I love how everyone is defending their recent purchase. I don’t think it needs to be justified. Boats styling, like cars gets stale after so many years. With the r5 and r7 being in its 5th soon to be 6th model year it’s due for a refresh. I was actually talking to BBP about this a few weeks or month ago and I predicted a unvailing of the new r series to be at the Miami show in 2020. With it going into production in 2021.

My theory is always if you sit around waiting for the next big change. You will never pull the trigger. Who knows if the new model comes out and I like it. I can always trade up. But I don’t see that happening as I loce my R7. And I still get a smile every time I see a 262 on the water. Which is now over a decade old

Well it’s reasons like this that the true unveiling times are crucial. GM knows we can launch top tier advertising in 24 hrs so the delay informing Dealers of “ Special event financing, and Rebates” etc are the day before it happens. Or else everyone would wait. Geeze we have a July 18 date set for revealing the “ mid engine C8 Corvette
I’m still thinking there not going to risk a 2019 Model R production with a similar size and name.

It be like the Chevy 1500 going to 1600 etc. I’m betting a stand alone model to not fully upset the apple cart. Hmmmm 26 foot stepped hull with a 520 merc.??? Yep now I’m excited!

Not sure how many Facebook people caught that post as it was down in an hour. But I wouldn’t be surprised if a formal Company Post comes out to explain to the calls there going to get or some orders getting cancelled etc as a result.

I’ve only been hearing about the mid engine C8 since the release of the C7. Lol. Yet I still see nothing but silver tops driving C7 verts all over town

If you want to get picky the certificate of orgin for my new boat says the model is an R27. But I guess r27 didn’t roll off the tongue the way R7 does. Or maybe it sounded to close to A25 or A28.

Yep I agree when Cobalt built the R 30 Cobalt didn't take into consideration of joy stick control. So as we know Cobalt had to install the joy stick in the cup holder position and install the cheesiest cup hold below the throttles. Something you can find at the Wally Mart

I’ve always waited for new models, instead of buying something on its way out of style. I like to buy the next gen stuff. I’m waiting an extra year for the new 1015 TQ PSD/10 speed Super Duty. Very difficult to do with boats because you never know what’s coming until it’s here.
I felt very confident back in 16’ that the R series had life left. I think I nailed it with the updated 17’.

Today, it’s a difficult decision because you know the R is going on 7 years old, and that’s a sign that it’s run is about done.
If a new R series does appear, our current stuff is now “the old style”
That’s how it goes...
I may trade out if the resale is right... I definitely bought right, but if not, I am perfectly happy!

There does seem to be a tipping point where the older stuff gives more joy than the new stuff. A friend of mine had a 1981 Super-glide Shovel head Lowrider. Archaic, rough riding, hand numbing, poor handling,leaked oil when new, slow, kick start, black with red stripes, clean as new, perfect and maybe my favorite motorcycle on Earth.

I saw a ‘14 R7 for sale here at TRL for 105 the other day. I’d say your investment is safe still

New R series boats are in the works. R6 will be first, followed by R8 and R4 last. I've yet to read a review of an R series boat that wasn't gushing with praise over the boat's attributes. So, anyone who has a one or two-year-old R5, R7, I wouldn't feel bad about being missing out on a new boat in about a year's time. I'll proceed with my purchase as well. I might have thought about it if I wasn't already under contract with the dealer having already sold my trade, but the new R4 won't arrive until the 2021 model year and for me, that is a long time to wait. If I decide to move up, it will be an R6 Surf in 3 years, so I'm now looking forward to my (yet to be produced) R3.
