Sorry u didn’t get a welcome the first time around.

Not really any tricks. Just unscrew hose clamp on the hose; unscrew pump screws (& float from base if separate); and disconnect wires after sliding that entire plate assembly out.

Any pics of your cobalt?

I can unscrew the plate and slide around very little but can’t get enough clearance to take any screws out from the pump and float. It would be really awesome use of this plate if you could slide the whole thing out. That’s what I’m trying to do and because it’s so tight you can’t slide it out with everything attached and if I could it the pump and float unscrewed from the plate I don’t know how I would get a new pump and float attached to slide back in. You would think the awesome design of using the plate you would be able to unscrew the plate from the bilge floor and the whole plate and attachments would slide out together. That’s why I thought there might be a trick to getting the plate with pump and float attached out.

Yes. That’s the purpose of the mount. You can see how mine is loose in the photo on the first page. It will just slide right out for easy access.
Not sure how yours is attached without pics but they are normally similar on Cobalts using the anti-clog & easy access mount.
I guess the solution for you is to buy a 2000-2007 262.

Oh sorry A7 I didn't know that was your bilge I posted. It was just on the web when I searched what oil should I use in a Merc.
I believe that pump is held on to that plate with Rivots. There has to be a few screws your missing. On the plate I meant

I have not reached under there in a couple of years.... what about leaving the old pump there cutting the wire and install a the new pump. the problem is how to mount the new pump to the plastic plate.

And the solution to the bilge pump solution was?

No solution yet. Planning to call the local dealer for some tips before I pay someone to replace it.

I rotated the photos for ya.

Speaking of rotate, why can’t you rotate the pump and plate in that first picture counterclockwise while pulling the assembly toward you allowing that white plastic piece to clear? . Disconnect the wires first from the power source. Hard to tell from the pic but it looks like with a little muscle it will come out.

I would clean the bilge first. My 17 year old bilge is cleaner than that. I always want a clean Blige in case I have to climb inside and work on something.
Loosen up the motor mounts and raise the engine.
