I don't even know where I would attach it as most of the time I'm just wearing swim trunks with no belt loops...I can see it on go-fast boats in big water, but on inland lakes at cruising speeds, seems unnecessary. This is the first boat I've owned that even had one.

I explained to my wife the new law and mentioned we don’t even have a lanyard. I mentioned my plan of trading up to a R7 so we wouldn’t need one. Within ten minutes she had ordered one on EBay for $7.00.
So much for that plan.

Sine I can’t even find my lanyard and if I did I am sure it would be rotted out, how about some links on where to buy them? Also, more recommendations for style and attachments would be fun to discuss. I see opportunities here!
I am thinking of a “toe ring model” might be in order.

I found that there are five other states that require the driver of a boat must be physically attached to the lanyard. Nevada, Alabama, New Jersey, Louisiana and Illinois. The article I read said the Coast Guard is pushing hard to make use of a cut off switch a federal law.
I’m not sure why this bothers me so much but it does.

I can tell you after being checked out twice by the AL water cops in the first 24hrs if owning my R7 that Alabama does not enforce the law. They checked EVERYTHING, (did I mention twice..?) and never checked the lanyard.

Yeah, never once had a LEO even mention a lanyard during an inspection in Illinois.

The law goes into effect Sept 1, 19.
Here's some more tidbits:
"The basics of the law require the use of a kill switch lanyard or wireless kill switch by the boat operator on motor boats less than 26 feet in length when underway if it is equipped with one by the manufacturer. The boat operator is also required to first verify the switch is operational and fully functional. If using a wireless system, the bill requires a wireless man overboard transmitter be attached to every person on board."
Gov. Abbott is an idiot.
"According to the U.S. Coast Guard’s 2017 Recreational Boating Statistics report, there were 172 accidents nationwide that year in which at least one person was struck by a propeller. Those accidents resulted in 31 deaths and 162 injuries, the report says." Ok out of 172 incidents with thousands of boats out there how many would have been prevented by a "kill lanyard". We had a death on Travis Last year, but an idiot in a house boat backed over a girl swimming. Lanyard can't replace common sense and sobriety on the water.
Through venting. Looking for a rainbow colored lanyard and practicing "handing" it to the game warden.

I'm thinking I might be pushing 26' with the swim platform. It will be close, but I bet they go with the registration. If you looking for me, look for the guy with the non-tan line around his right wrist and a spare lanyard in the glove box. I know I will forget to take it off and jerk the cheap plastic part right in half. Searching e-bay for a spare right now.
