Re: Stainless steel rails around swim platform
Thanks all. FYI @Big Block Power -- I noticed the same bronze color (my small brain said more "orange") in the scratches. They did seem to sometimes be better or worse at different points. I'm also in saltwater when I boat, but it's stored in a rack between outings. I always chalked it up to rust, which is why I wanted to get it smoothed out sooner. In everything I've read and investigated, the smoother the better when it comes to preventing stainless rusting. It's not impervious to it, but actually oxidizes (or something similar) which helps protects it from rust. I think scratches throw that off -- on your swim platform rails, do you have some scratches that could be causing that.... maybe from opening up that beast of an engine?

No it's where my lever is that locks the steps in place and it's on my steps. Very little on the rail. But side note during the Cobalt Factory tour we saw the salt water stainless steel package as we wondered around to find shinny and we found it. They have special stainless for salt. You can see it from KC. Matt knows more about it. I thought I got a picture of it or he did but not sure. So I wonder if they didn't order yours with that package.

Thanks for posting this. I have some damage to the rail around my swim platform and on the stainless trim that did its job acting as a bumper in a similar incident. Actually snapped the bolt under the rail. Dealership got the rail back in place and a new bolt but I still have the scratches to contend with.

Pics of the damage. The gelcoat stuff is pretty minor. Had a guy fix most of the damage there, he just missed some spots that I'm being picky about. The stainless makes me sick.

Buffed out the stainless rail on my 2005 255, was hazy to start with.
Used a buffer and worked on it for about 2-3 hours.
Made a really big difference.
