No. For me it’s not about a special friend price or any listing hierarchy—it’s about not giving something out of my control the ability to create a strain. Good friends are hard enough to come by. All purchases come with some form of risk and I guess I just have a desire to not let any potential risk to get in the way of a friendship. It would bother me if I was the source of financial outlay and or disappointment in a purchase by a friend. Sappy? Probably but it’s who I am. It’s also why I usually trade in vs sell outright

I sold a car to a friend once and would never sell a car or a boat to a friend again. If I ever sell our R5 it would likely be to my son. He’ll be ready for a boat in 10 years when I’m getting the itch for a new one!!

Well said sailor and exactly why I would avoid it. And to add one other thought... I did all of the maintenance and repairs on my last boat that I could. Typically resulted in blood, bruises, literal headaches from hanging upside down, cost, and pain in general. Now I have a new boat, and the last thing I want is to feel obligated to continue to work on the old one for a friend. Not saying this is the right sentiment, but its how I am.
Having said that, I do love to fix and improve things. Now that Ive done the umbrella, UW lights, LED off relay mods to the new R5, I cant wait for the rudder indicator to come in

I sold my Acura Legend to my boss years ago. I wasn't looking to sell it, but it was an extra car and he kept hounding me. I made the mistake of letting him drive it. Then, he just kept offering me more money and I kept saying no. It was a very special car to me. I still love the Acura Legend styling and would buy one today. Long story short, I sold it to him and the the car did what it does - performed flawlessly, but his kids destroyed it. After that, I would only sell something like a beloved car or beloved boat to someone I knew and who would allow me to have some control over it's care and maintenance. So, basically it will never happen.

We sold our 190 to a friend...does he keep her looking all nice and shiny like I did, hell no. But I got his money and so now he can do what he wants with her. Does it make me sad? I shed a few tears but its not a reason not to sell something to a friend. The love the boat and enjoy it...that's what matters!

True. But in my book, people who blame me for things outside my control are not good friends.
Right. I sell "to" friends and "for" friends all the time. I broker stuff for folks quite a bit. If they disclose something to me about what I'm selling, then I convey to the buyer. Sometimes if it's a vehicle I'll drive it while I'm selling it so I can disclose any little issue. And I go over EVerything, from door dings to mechanical issues. Basically anything I'm aware of or might suspect.
But I also tell the buyer "I disclose everything I know about, and point out all the good stuff, but I'm selling this AS IS. So if this breaks in half at the end of the drive, you still own both ends, and I'll help you load them."
As long as everyone knows it is just a sales transaction, and I'm not responsible for anything outside of my control, we're good.
