Do you currently have a boat?
No....I just got a place in Tahoe with a pier and my own buoy, so planning for the future. Debating:
1. Order R7 now.
2. Buy used boat now, evaluate R8 when it is introduced.
3. Do nothing now, and wait for an R8,
4. Do nothing now , and buy a used or dealer stocked R7 next year (I assume some R7s will be sold or traded for those who want an R8.
It is fun to think about all of the above. Gives me something to do on long conference calls.
Option 5 is rent some boats this year, get a better idea of what you like, you won't have the sales tax/depreciation/maint cost of purchasing a used boat now, and selling it in a year.
If it were me, I would probably look to order the R7 in the spring, looking at the R4 info prior to purchase will give you an idea if it is a big enough difference to wait.

Darn it Steve you beat me to the post! Is that a surf gate I see??
right place at the right time haha. I feel special now.
Im not exaclty sure whats going on with the back of that black one. surf gate should be out flush with the gunwhale, where that trim tab is. it almost looks like they added extended running surfaces in closer to the outdrive.

Me too! I guess Bob is outside shoveling snow
Any guess which model this is (R6?). I don't really care for the swim platform line carrying forward (like on the CS series). It breaks the nice line of the stern (port and starboard) "ends".
The sun shade looks a bit odd too. Where were the pictures taken?

they were taken at the annual cobalt dealer training. This year it is at the factory. I got confirmation from my salesman that the black one is indeed the R6 but he said as of now it is just a prototype.

I guess it looks a bit retro (some of the old wooden Chris Crafts) which I'm not partial too. I assume Cobalt knows what their customers want though. If the CS series is selling really well and customer feedback is that they like that styling detail, it would make sense to add it to other lines. Of course, one might argue that the R series is less differentiated from the CS because of that design cue.
Anyway, lots of choices in the Cobalt lineup.
