Re: VP 6.2 Over heating at idle.
I got a call from the dealer today. The service manager said I had a second bad impeller that they installed, what are the chances? They said it’s working perfectly. Is there any chance the housing could be bad and damaging the impeller? The boat has about 80 hrs on it and I didn’t have any problems last year. The dealer winterized last fall and it overheated first time in the water this year.

Yes I don't know if I like the sounds of that. If it works this summer I would pull it next spring and check it and replace it next spring just to see.

Remember idling in neutral is the lowest pressure your exhaust and exchanger sees.
Hopefully they verified all clear from housing to outdrive pick up port

Re: VP 6.2 Over heating at idle.
I’m going to give it a try before I plan on a full boating trip, there is a lake about 30 minutes from my house I can try it on. I’m waiting for them to get the longer hoses for the ballist tanks to stop the siphoning empty. I had them change them last fall but they didn’t secure them and two of them got in to the pulley on the engine a rubbed holes in them. When that happens the lake water leaks in to the hull from the intake under the boat. The hoses are plastic spa hoses. I tried to get them to put the spa hoses on but they said they had to come from Cobalt. Hopefully I can try it this weekend.

I took the R5 out yesterday the first time after the dealer installed the second new impeller. Every thing works great, I didn’t see the second one they pulled out so maybe it was defective. I’m just happy it’s working. Next year I think I will just install I new impeller before I take it out and have a spare with me.

Re: VP 6.2 Over heating at idle.
Different people have different thoughts on OEM vs. different impeller brands, but quality aftermarket (e.g. Sierra) shouldn't look like that until a couple decades worth of use. Replacing impellers without figuring out why they went bad sounds like a recipe for another trip to the shop to me, but perhaps they did flush out or check flow in the lines leading to and from the impeller housing. Hope this trip was your last one!
