Steve Meade has some great vids on utube. He tests diff wire and shows you on a dyno what you lose.

Never heard of capacitance. WTH is that?
Guess I need to follow the link you provided. Thanks
Sure thing X.
And think of capacitance as losing some of your frequency response between two parallel running wires (such as speaker wire) as electrons travel from the source to the speaker.

Seems like he knows his stuff.Big Block Power wrote: Mon Jun 01, 2020 9:27 pm Steve Meade has some great vids on utube. He tests diff wire and shows you on a dyno what you lose.
I bought his distortion detector for setting up my other boat. Will be needing that again pretty soon.

SMD has some fun vids but IMHO he’s a little too pimped out-ghetto for me with his installs. His popular phone book shredding vid is funny if not gimmicky. My nephew was into him for awhile. Nephew’s rusty car vibrated apart (literally) from a two battery subwoofer set up. It was comical.
...and remember Steve’s dyno wire vids are about testing power wire supply properties (mainly watts) vs the signal accuracy properties of speaker wire.

Re: Wet Sounds Rev 10 tower speaker demo
Pretty interesting stuff on Steve's channel, although his sound system goals don't generally match mine. The distortion tool isn't overly complex, but is a sort of neat solution to a problem that doesn't already have a good, cheap tool to address.
I actually did some speaker wire research back in my day - comparing various high-end cables compared to cheap cables and different geometric configurations (e.g., twisted pair ribbon cable vs. Kimber Cable vs. plain 12 ga). For 99% of users, plain 12ga cable is about as good as you'll get (going higher, self-inductance starts to dominate negative effects), and any distortion in response due to impedance effects will be outweighed by speaker driver distortion by orders of magnitude.

I like what he does. I have that tool. It works really easy.

Re: Wet Sounds Rev 10 tower speaker demo
Yeah, it was linked from a current thread about Wet Sounds tower speakers, and I hadn't read this whole thread. I do sort of like that some guy's problem from five years ago gets archived here and can be dug up next time someone has the same issue/project/whatever, and we don't have a rule about digging up old threads mostly for that reason.
Here, I didn't expect 12 gauge to be more accurate than 10 gauge or 8 gauge speaker cable before doing my work, so I figured I'd chime in for the next guy who's debating spending a bunch of cash on buying super-heavy speaker cable.
