Will get pics next trip to the lake. The old carpet was black, so the black polypropylene
looks pretty much the same. The way the trailer and bunks are set up, there's no chance
for the hull to contact the wheel well area unless you come in at a really steep side angle
to the trailer, or 'way off-center.

Great point akor. There are some great YouTube vids of boats sliding off of those as folks back down the ramp.
I was thinking he was using un-carpeted wood when I first perused his post. Cobalt hulls beware. Whew.

Replaced the wheel well boards (rotted out) with black high density polypropylene (HDPE) cut
to fit... no carpeting needed, and it will never rot again. Used a hand router to roll the sharp
edge off the exposed side, then filled the crack with black silicone caulking. OK so far....

It's high-density polyethylene (I incorrectly called it polypropylene, above),
this was a "marine" formulation, i.e. extra water resistant. Got mine from
Allied Plastic Supply in OKC. They had some already cut to 12" wide, so got 2 60"
pieces (1/2 inch thick). Cut it down to fit the hole, routed a round corner on the
exposed edge, and drilled back through he flange holes, placing bolts through the
first two holes to hold it firmly in place.

Bought new carriage bolts, used threadlocker on new nuts (the old nuts/bolts were rusted
almost to failure, had to grind them off). Filled the joint with black silicone caulk.

So far, so good. I'm sure it won't rot, just don't know what else it might do that
would cause me to need to replace it. Wish I had spent a little more time cutting
to fit... they are a little bit rough in spots. This material is easy to drill and cut.

Looks great, HPD and Derlin are very workable materials. I have all derlin bushings in my race car, and HPD panels inside the cabin. Love the look, might have to steal this idea.

I like the idea. I would make sure none of it is sticking up past the wheel well. Not sure if you launch where there is current. Also I would counter sink the screws or bolts. I thought of changing mine over as well. Hdpe isn't cheap. I used it to mount my amps too it. Easy to work with. I just wish I had more wood working tools for the finished look.
