4. Despite all the discussion by one or two members of this forum encouraging prospective owners to go big or go home, I don’t think Cobalt views its target market as the speed racer type. True it offers a CC exhaust for those who like to announce they’ve arrived, but the hulls are built for quiet, comfort and rough water handling unlike, say, a Regal which has a very “fast” hull emphasizing high speed and quick handling at the expense of rough water ride.
While this may be true see Tgrace summed it upped perfectly with his post in another thread......at the price points they are asking power should just be there. Similar to luxury cars that are all about comfort and features but also can rocket down the highway. Just cause. They are asking a TON of money for these boats and IMO should all have the 430 included as the standard package :)
Thats like saying every Porsche Cayenne should be a turbo model for $180,000 and they shouldn't offer the Cayenne in a base model for $85,000. I'm pretty sure, for all the talk, the take rate for the 430 on all but the R7 is pretty low. I've never seen one in a boat on a dealer's lot and I've looked through all of the largest dealers online inventories. That has to tell you something. Cobalt has been at this for 50+ years, I think they know the market by now. They can't be everything to everyone and they play in the luxury bow rider market with the R series. I'm totally satisfied with the product and its performance. I think most are. :)
I agree - no dealer would stock something only 2 percent would pay for. They exist, but only the ordered boats. Dealers all have to play with the numbers to see whats affordable in upgrades. If they overbuild a boat, they simply wont sell it.

This is good. Lol
It's not about go big or go home. I think some of them thinks this means go fast.
Go big, (big engine) has more uses then go fast. Yes some think small works great till they go bigger. You never see someone go 2fties go with the same or smaller engine. Nope they realize the bigger was better. Hope that makes sense if it doesn't let's talk about McClaren too😂😂

Not much new compared to the R6. The boat is 1,800 lbs heavier than the R7. It will be interesting to see what the prop charts show for speed and time to plane. Otherwise, looks nice.

7,200 pounds. This is a beast. I know the prop charts will tell the tale, but can 380 HP get it done on this boat, or is 430 a must?

The sales manager at the Harbor suggests that the "dry weights" on the previous R series didnt take into account things like the tower's weight. So the reality is the dry weight on a fairly standard outfitted R7 is probably in the 6,200 lbs range. Supposedly these new dry weights take more of that into account. Still its a heavier boat overall.

I noticed something I'd never seen on the R7 build page... offering a $21,000 hardtop. Forget the price for a moment. Is this new?

But neither boat comes standard with a tower so I'd say the apples to apples comparison is the boat without options, so I think the 1,800 weight difference is likely the correct assumption.

Not an option on the R7. I suspect this is an error on the page - we've seen several. Either it is an option on the R8 and they put it in the wrong place or its just an error. I'm betting its just an error. The product tour would have shown it.

So the R8 is 7400lbs dry weight. The A29 that is a foot longer and a 9ft beam is 7250. How is this possible?? I know a few people that drove an A29 the Harbor had and it would struggle to get to mid 40's. I do not understand the direction they are going here.

We just need to see the prop charts. Then we'll know.

That video with the kid and the barefoot-skiing grandfather is truly awful. Cringe-worthy, even.

That would be a super temping boat if not for the 1800 lbs of flab they added. I don't even know how you can do that.

From what I understand most of the weight is in the new stringer system, so not really “flab”.

If the new stringer system isn't 1800 lbs better than the old stringer system - and I am willing to bet it's not - then it's flab.

That's a really shocking increase in weight. Weight affects EVERYTHING.
