Unless you are dead set on buying a Heritage trailer you should look at Loadmaster trailers out of Port Clinton Ohio. That’s what Tuscany and I have. My new trailer is by far the best pulling and easiest loading trailer I have ever had! Heritage makes a nice trailer too but Loadmaster’s are better IMO. They are also GREAT people to work with! They actually answer the phone and return every email!

I have a quote from them and yes they are a better trailer build wise. One thing that my have put me off was the removable tongue vs swinging. I was able to work everything out with the dealer and Heritage and did get the order shoved thru.

Heritage was very adamant that I did not need 15"s for a 4K boat and that electric drum brakes are unsafe vs their hyd surge disk brakes. I have had a couple bad instances with surge brakes and prefer to never have them again.

I’m with ya on the hydraulic surge brakes! I hate them! I don’t have any storage length concerns so I didn’t want any kind of swinging or removable tongue because it’s just one more thing to break..

I dont think that they factor in that I can turn the gain up if Im not feeling the trailer tug on stops. Also another benefit is I can back it up inclines without putting in the lockout pin. Thats considering the surge brakes are even functioning. Yes back when pickups didn't come standard with controllers they were helpful or if you used the family station wagon, but now I feel they are just outdated.

My garage is only 48' deep so if I can shave off a couple feet it helps being able to walk around. I wish I could have seen the trailers side to side to see how much shorter each version was. I also think more people recognize swing-away so when we go to sell that should help market it.

I love electric brakes for the simplicity of them and ease of maintenance. If they start giving trouble just buy a set of loaded backing plates for less than $100, bolt them on and connect the wires. Most of the time they give trouble its a $10 magnet that goes bad and a really easy fix. Plus its rare that all 4 will go out at once unless you have a wiring problem in the main harness so you should always have trailer brakes. That’s another plus with Loadmaster trailers in my book because all of their wiring is exposed on the inside of the frame C channels and not buried inside the boxed frames of most other trailers. Every time I’ve had hydraulic brake trouble I’ve lost everything and had no brakes.

I built my shed 60’ deep so I can back my trailer with my crew cab long box truck in and close the door with a few feet to spare on both ends. I also had Loadmaster build my trailer 2’ longer than what they would normally put an R5 on. I think long trailers pull better.
