A 50% jump in horsepower on 5% boost? Those numbers don’t add up. I’d expect something more like 525-540hp, given you have 30% more air at best.

No chance I boost an engine that needs to turn 6,000 RPM. I don’t trust the rods.

Air at sea level is just shy of 15psi, so adding 5psi gives you a theoretical maximum gain of 33% of your original air (usually less due to a variety of real-world losses). It looks like Whipple is achieving greater gains than this by changing a bunch of other things with the engine too, including ecu mapping, throttle body, bigger injectors at higher pressure, etc., which means the HP gains are likely about half due to the supercharger and half due to the other modifications. In other words, if you throw out the supercharger but kept the rest of their parts and re-tune in the same way they have, you'd probably still be up by around 25% in horsepower over the stock engine
If you try to supercharge a modern well-tuned engine that hasn't left much on the table with their ECU tuning and doesn't have a poor intake and/or fuel system design, you're typically limited to less than the theoretical gain as described above.
That said, I like superchargers a lot, and wish my BMW had an Eaton supercharger instead of the twin scroll turbos. It's unfortunate that Audi moved away from the TVS superchargers in their 3L engines toward turbos, but they save a buck and have higher peak horsepower numbers to advertise despite the hit that throttle response takes.

496 runs between 5000-5200rpms. Maybe your talking about the 350 mag

I put a Whipple on my 2001 Chevy Suburban tow vehicle back in 2000, when my truck was new. The only other mods were to make the exhaust free flow. The vehicle had enormous torque, in fact the only problem I've had is breaking transmission input shafts. I finally found a hardened one that has lasted. It was fun to blow off Mustangs as stop lights. I did the install with two of other knowledgable guys in one evening. At that time Whipple sent a modified ECU, for the Chevy small block.
I have a 1999 292 with twin 350and Bravo 3s, and it is fast enough for me on Lake of the Ozarks, which has a constant boat chop, unless you out very early in the morning. That "big pig" handles the wakes as well as any boat I've driven or ridden. Also, I wonder if there is enough top clearance for the Whipple in my application. I suspect not.

Volvo big blocks spin up to 6000 rpms?
Volvo uses the newest generation GM marine motors which is based off the new LT series V8 that you see in the latest gm trucks. So they are a all aluminum small block. Direct injection. So get the same power as the old big blocks. Just spin a little more rpm’s

Resurrecting this!
I was looking at either a heads/Cam package for my 8.1Gi or maybe dipping into the SC route. I’m a big fan of the ProCharger centrifugal setups but I can’t find one for a Volvo setup. Next option would be a twin screw. Any of y’all endup going that route? Who can tune the Volvo ECU’s? It’s a 01 so the ECU should be the tuneable one. I’ll need that regardless of what direction I go, this is what I was looking at.
