My shift rod head barely moves. I can get it to disengage, but no where near the exhaust opening. Is this something I should muscle or other?

And now is when you tell me how to properly separate the upper and lower?
Mallet?
Karate kicks?
Wife complaining?
I know which one would get me separated fastest!

Could this be why the boat wasn't going into reverse? Is this something I should disassemble?

What is the total play in the shift rod? I think I’m getting no more than 1inch. Here is the max up and down positions.

Never knew I would be good at magnet fishing. I pulled this out of the upper unit. The second pic is something that should be identifiable, some sort of tooth washer. That can’t be good.

Wow, that’s a lot of metal. This is going to need a full rebuild upper and lower I’m thinking. I guess I start with the upper?

The joke obviously that all teeth are missing but in bits throughout the unit
