Ask yourself this…what are you getting with an R8 surf over your current boat ? Have you ever walked into your barber and asked for a $75,000 haircut ? No….? Well if you order an R8 Surf that’s what you’re really getting, a $75,000 haircut.

By the way, on an order boat it shouldn’t matter to the dealer, they’re not forking our any cash or using dealer FP to buy the boat. I bought my Cobalt R7 10 months ago for 26% off sticker.

Making my Cobalt “Old School”

I just traded our R5 surf and boat mate trailer for an ordered R6 surf. Here are the details. R5 listed for 160k Trailer was 10k. I paid 135k for both in may of last year. R5 has 82hrs and 850 miles on it.
The new boat retails for 234232 but has many more options. The trade difference was 67500. They showed 134000 for my boat and trailer and 201500 for the R6 with no trailer. I’m in TN and the tax rate is 7% That saves me an additional $9380 as well(about the price of a trailer)
Boat is scheduled to start production in October

There is little to no negotiation currently. I’m a little old-school, where I always have to win on a deal. Anyone paying sticker for anything is nuts. Wait it out, in a couple of years, or the next stock correction, you’ll be in much better position. MSRP will only dig you in a deeper hole.

Seedealercost.com is a joke. It’s a great website for the dealers.True dealer cost is somewhere between 40 and 42% under msrp.

I think we all want to feel like we won on the deal. It's like the old saying how do you know when a negotiation is successful? When both parties feel like they got screwed. I'm pretty sure I butchered that joke but oh well. On the original topic my dealer is getting closer to my number, we are within about 3k of each other right now. So I may have a new boat on order real soon!

I guess I’m a little more Italian. definitely more poker faced to toy excitement and not afraid to walk, although my wife said (to me) that this was the boat.
I look at vehicles and other depreciating purchases as “cost to own”. The cost between buy and sell.

I need to know actual, factual cost on stuff like this, current wholesale/retail market on a trade value, and of course supply and demand. Of course my dealer was a little taken aback when I asked for actual cost, but he’ll get over it, and my check book was present which made him feel better. And then we negotiated a fair profit that we both could live with.
I know he has a business to run, and overhead which fair profit has to be considered, but my money doesn’t grow on trees and I won’t buy unless it’s very attractive cost to own.

I’m starting to get the itch for an R30 with twin Mercs, but it will have to wait until the next market crash…

If you are within $3k on a R8 Surf, pay the $3K and don’t look back. Look at it this way. If you keep the boat for 5 years it’s only $50 per month!

I guess what's 3k on a 250k boat? You will spend that on gas the first year. Do it!

As much as the VP doesn’t have the same sound and soul as the 502, it’s just crazy efficient on gas.
