I’ll spend your money. Get the trim tabs. It was my last option add on my R5 and they are fantastic! Just showing them off yesterday on a lunch run. My boating buddies talked me into them, and I still thank them.
It’s much like trimming an airplane vs flying an out of trim jet. You won’t be cruising with a list when you’ve got folks aboard your R6, and they help when handling big chop or swells.
As said earlier, the R6 is a good sized boat with a semi-permanent sail on top because you’ll rarely, if ever, fold up your bimini.
You’ll never regret it. Plus, your hole shots will be amazing!

Any thought on needed trim tabs for an R4? Dealer and Cobalt rep said not needed for the lake I’ll be in. Big Bear Lake outside Los Angeles.

I have an R5 and think any of the side entries could make use of them to compensate for the right to left imbalance under way. The seating arrangement is fairly left sided and once I have 3 or more people on board notice a lean to port. Rather than trying to spread out the load I would prefer to adjust the trim tabs. Looking to have the dealer add them over the winter.

I talked to my dealer about adding the tabs and both him and his manager talked me out of it. Said that it wasn't necessary. I was surprised thinking that they would jump all over the upsell. My rep told me to take it out and use for a season and if I notice that I need it, we can always add it on after the fact, like what stiffkd is doing. Figured I can go that route and add it to my "post build" upgrades list.

Very very very good point. When buying my r7 I was on the fence about the dinette table. Well the dealer said the same thing. Go a season and see if you miss it. Well the wife wanted it. All the sudden that $1050 option with discount had turned into just over 2k because it went up in cost. They would not discount plus they wanted to charge me an install fee of 2hrs. So from my experience If you think you might want/need it. Do it now while the discounts are there. So 3 seasons later I still get asked when I’m buying the dinette table

Trim tabs are a no brained for me. Most of the people that say you don’t need them don’t have them. They make everything better on my R5, not just for leveling the ride but make it ride better in big water and side winds. Also keep in mind that the new R’s don’t have the extended running surface of the 3,5&7’s. I wouldn’t even consider a new 4,6 or 8 without tabs.

They also help keep you up on plane. I can stay up on plane at about 11-12mph with the tabs down. That’s huge with small kids trying to ski or tube.

Yes it is. Trim tabs should be standard on the non surf models because of this. Blame it on BU..

I agree with this. Should be standard and not optional. It will only mean greater customer satisfaction. Easily one of my most desirable features on my boat if not THE most, for all of the reasons you posted in that prior post. Helps make all riding scenarios better; load balance, big water, wind, planing.
