I’m not sure. It sounds to me like the dealer held the orders until Malibu said to order. Then when they ordered or began ordering Malibu confirmed the price increase. I agree, should have been on new orders. According to my friend, the dealer said they have 15 boats in order for Malibu and they can’t eat the cost increase on all of them.

I don't think that's how it works. From talking with my dealer is sounds like the ordering process is similar to how you order a car. Each dealership has a certain amount of allocations. Those allocations are assigned a build week. The dealer has until X weeks before the build week to make changes to the allocated builds. Most dealers spec these builds for inventory, so they won't be base models or fully optioned. However when someone comes in and wants to buy a custom build they look at their allocations and see which builds can be modified and what the build week is for that allocation. That's when your custom build gets put into the system. You then have the same luxury of modifying your build until it's locked in.

A dealer can't hold orders. If they did it would disrupt the manufacturing process and those orders would probably take a very long time to arrive at the dealer.

Don’t know if that is normal but I hope it helps. They have been fairly straightforward with me I feel even though I know I am paying more than 2 years ago. But that is how it works in this market I guess.
I got a similar deal - not quite as good as yours. However what the OP is saying is that he's hearing that dealers are reniging on deals because Cobalt is adding a surcharge to capitalize on the current boat market.
Without seeing all the numbers we are probably both about even in this market with trailer etc. they are going to make their money right now. With that said We knew going in this is not a long term investment for profit haha ! But if it ever gets here it will be FUN! Thanks everybody for all the help and posts.

I'm with you 100%. My paperwork says delivery is estimated to be Feb 9 2022. Let's see how close they get to that. Honestly as long as it's here by April I'd be happy.

I have a 2022 R8S on order, I’ve put down a deposit and we have an agreed upon price. If my dealer/Cobalt/Malibu puts me in this position I may tell them they can keep their boat! Are these companies giving no thought for future business? In my book a deal is a deal, that’s a pretty dirt bag move.

No one owns a Lucid yet. They just started initial customer deliveries over the weekend.

That said, it looks bad ass.

I'm looking at the stock....went up 20% since I first heard about it.
Can afford a few shares, but no electric car until Cobalt paid for.

I sell Mack & Volvo commercial trucks and have been doing it for (35) years......ya I know, I'm getting old. Mack is adding a $1,000 surcharge to all orders to be built in 2022, even those that are sold. That's the first time ever and I never thought I'd see it in my career. I've seen surcharge and price increases on stock order, but never sold orders before.

That said, cost for everything from material, labor, logistics, etc., etc. are skyrocketing like we've never seen. My gut tells me it's not dealers and/or manufacturers trying to get greedy as much as they're managing their cost / margin to the best of their abilities in these crazy times. A local dump body manufacturer for trucks told me that if he filled all orders at published prices, he'd be out-of-business, that's how fast his raw material cost is increasing.

Not saying any of this is right, but being a dealer myself, I certainly understand what manufacturers are going thru. Your opinion may vary and that's OK with me!

I agree. But when you msrp a boat at 200k and you have 30k of fluff in it do you really need to add a surcharge? Just asking for a friend?
