R5 2019 no ignition can not trim up

Just had exactly same symptoms last week. Trim gauge on glass dash display bouncing around unable to trim from helm but was able to get the drive down from stern control. Replaced trim sending unit and fixed.

That's what sucks about Volvo..if you have a faulty trim sender, it won't let you trim up. First thing I would do is bypass that function so you can always get your trim ip. The reason it is in there is for idiots that might trim up too much while the engine is running.

Is there way to do this that you know of?

Would have to look at the wiring diagram since they change all the time. There used to be a module that had the trim switch going in one side, the outputs going to the other and the trim sender also going in. You could remove the module and just have the inputs go to the outputs.

Hey guys. I’m re-opening this old thread. Same exact issue. Engine will trim down but will not trim up. Went to start and it beeped at me and said crank override active “trim too high”. Trim is down but it won’t let me trim it back up. Looks like the sensor is off bc it bounces around on the gauge cluster. Any tips or tricks to reset? Thanks!

Sorry for the delay getting back to you, just saw your post. Mine ended up being a broken trim sender wire I found coming out of the out drive. Took it to the dealer and they replaced the whole trim sender under warranty.

So dumb that Volvo still has that module that relies on the troublesome trim sender to be operable to use the tilt.
