Here are some further clarifications to the excellent questions you raised...

The lift is rated as 15K lbs and dock is about 30' long.

I would be boating at a fairly large lake in midwest. Gets rough on busy weekends.

Both boats have the swim platform and wakeboard tower. 232 has wakeboard attachments on the tower but 262 does not.

I am not set on these boats necessarily but they are probably the better of the two from all the ones I looked online in terms of location/price/age/specs etc.

Thanks again.
Are you positive on that rating for the lift? 15k lifts are not that common. What kind of lake bottom around the dock? You should be fine with the boats you're considering, but at near max load, 15k lift will need the most solid lake bottom or you risk it sinking.

Thank you everyone for the feedback and ideas..

I am in no hurry... just will keep looking/gathering feedback and educate myself more. will pull the trigger when everything lines up...

There is 2013 R5 with 380hp Volvo. 335 hours. What do you guys think of this? Is anyone familiar with this seller? Details: https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/it ... 6751823984

and this is the 262 I mentioned before: https://www.arrowheadok.com/default.asp ... dInventory

The one huge benefit of the 262 is it is located at my local lake where my house is...

anyways.. chugging along..

California is a long way from your lake.
Also, others will correct this if I'm wrong, the 262's length does not include the swim platform, so it is actually a bigger boat.

One thing on the R5 is that is not a folding arch like the ad says. With that, I would question the whole thing.

The seller is Singleton Marine in Buford GA -- near Lake Lanier - they are a Cobalt dealer. He must be one of the salesmen there, lot's of boats listed on his facebook marketplace .

I've interacted with Singleton and it wasn't a great experience.....to be fair, I didn't buy my boat there. I 've never felt so much pressure and down talking of my own Cobalt while I was in the showroom--telling me how I'd soon learn to hate my R3 and I'd need bigger and the service department was terrible. They tried to mark up an EZ fold bimini exactly double what the new build cost was on Cobalt's website. It made a lasting impression.

I will not buy from any dealer if I don't like how they do business. Cars, boats, almost anything.
I'm getting ready to spend big bucks (relative term) and I don't want any added pressure. No "make me an offer I can take to my boss" stuff.
I learned from my Dad when I was 16 buying my first car, a 1966 Mustang. I was ready to pay $1,250 but he made me go home. They had our phone number. Three calls to the house on the same day, $1,150, then $1,050, and then we paid $950. Lesson I'll never forget.

Getting back to the thread, if it's not to personal, what was the cost? I like to know things.

If I remember they wanted 7200 plus installation. It’s 3400 option on the website. All I needed was 1500 worth of conversion parts they wouldn’t sell me

Funny you say that- My original dealer is no longer a Cobalt dealer (not their decision), Cobalt HQ wouldn't step in when I called them, but Boats by George in New York knew exactly what I needed to the piece and had great pricing with all parts in stock and would have shipped the same day I called. I ended up going a different route and didn't do the conversion, but I've used Boats by George twice and they nailed it both times.

Another point to consider; boat clubs typically put their club boats up for sale when the engine(s) hit 1,000 hours (at least they used to, harder nowadays with long lead times). The 2007 is a lot closer to that number. OTOH, same size engine in a smaller boat means more hp per pound. The lack of history would bother me.

My dealer and marina where I keep my boat sells some of their boat club boats every fall. Usually 600-700hrs, they run a tight ship, other than hours these boats are kept up very well. Right now they have 3 R3’s for sale, 2 are boat club boats and one is a trade.

That R5 looks like a pretty nice boat, but as other pointed out the arch doesn't appear to be a folding arch and the dealer has a so-so-reputation. If you could get another competent shop to check it out and give it a clean bill of health, it might be worthwhile. I do like that engine in that boat, and the way it's optioned out.
