Yeah, the factory isn't going to want your boat back. Most boat mechanics do this kind of thing fairly often, and may be your best bet.

I'm a bit surprised FirstStar has a cutout template as a matter of standard documentation. Maybe you could talk him out of a copy?

Not a bad idea...I didn't know they moved production to Vonore. But their are certainly many brands made their.

Yeah, they didn't move all Cobalt production to TN, but they did open a second plant - like you said a lot of boat building in that area, including Malibu and SeaRay -- my old SeaRay was built in the Vonore plant, I called them several times, back then SeaRay was very accommodating to owners. It could not hurt to ask, worst they say is no and maybe they can refer you to someone who can do it. I don't think it is a terribly hard job once you get past the fear of cutting a big hole in the front of the boat!

I'll say it again - the all chain windless is my favorite thing about my R5.

I'd be curious to know what the cost is all in. Kit + Installation. $5982 from the factory on the R6.

Have them mark the rode every 10'. Put the breaker where it's easy to access, e.g., by the battery. Keep the hand tool in a handy location. I've had to use mine more than once.

If you haven't operated a windlass before, study then practice. There's an art and science to setting and retrieving the anchor.
