We like dogs here about as much as our boats. And I have always had a soft spot for Bulldogs!

Re: FINALLY! May Boating Pics
Sooooooooo, here was the ending to a great boating day on Saturday. We were cruising along around 30mph heading back to the ramp at 6pm, GPS showing about 20' of water on the Crooked River and BOOM!! We hit a sandbar with the tide heading out no less. Needless to say we were going to be there awhile until the tide came back in. Luckily I have the TowBoat US Gold insurance and I called them to see if they can get us off the bar. However, being I have an I/O and not an outboard he couldn't exactly just drag me off because the foot was buried in the sand by then. Fast forward 3 hours he was able to finally drag us off once enough water came in and we headed back to the ramp in the dark. Long story short, if you don't have that insurance, get it, it's one of those things you don't need until you need it. The Unlimited Gold is only $113 for a year. The bill for this was $1315 and I didn't have to pay for any of it.
I'm extremely lucky no one was hurt and nothing damaged on the boat or engine, that i can tell anyway.

Dang man! Glad no one was hurt and nothing damaged but your pride! As a boater i think we're all afraid of running a ground.
Theres a place on our lake where I see people do it all the time even though there's a warning buoy. When the lake is up, no problem. But at normal level it's only a foot deep. Scary stuff! That's why I'm always super cautious in waters I'm not familiar with.
So is that a sandbar that is not normally there and has just developed in the river? Is that sort of thing common?
Theres a navigational channel (Robert S Kerr) near us where the barges come up from the Gulf to Ports across Arkansas and Oklahoma. Its controlled with a series of locks, and several times I've considered a trip down the river to Ft Smith Arkansas but have always feared the sandbars.

Re: FINALLY! May Boating Pics
The crazy thing is the TowBoat guy hit a sandbar coming to rescue us!! LOL He said the same thing, his GPS showed deep water but there was a sandbar. Also, he said that river is famous for the sandbars moving, he's been doing this for 20 yrs and people are always getting stuck there. I won't be going back down that river anytime soon, unless it's lowtide!! lolYtmsn wrote: Mon May 21, 2018 6:50 am Dang man! Glad no one was hurt and nothing damaged but your pride! Yeah, I've heard the sandbars move. Especially with the tugboats and barges kicking everything around. Soooo, I guess if I ever do a river trip it'll be on a toon or a ski.

Glad you and the fam are ok NR25. Thanks for sharing that.
Still a unique pic even though the circumstances were not fun. You'll be talking about this memory for years to come with your family.

The whole experience was rather comical. Some friends we were hanging out with earlier were coming to hang out with us while we were stuck and on the way they hit another sandbar and was stuck themselves. THEN, the TowBoat guy was heading our way and hit a sandbar, but he was able to get off. LOL
