True.. I’ll admit that I’m not too thrilled at the pricing.. I have to believe that these are probably knock offs and that someone is making big $$... those sticker probably cost under $5 to make... but what do I know.. I might try reaching out to some dealers with new old stock and see what they want for them.. probably not worth the effort..

The price is about the same through the dealer.

Ok. I’m back .. Yes, I’m working multiple jobs around the house including a bathroom remodel. Anyway, I had some time for the Cobalt today.. So.. the first thing I’ve got to tackle is getting the side panel that the control mounts on figured out. A while back I had bought a 10x4 sheet of 1/2” ACX plywood as I mentioned above. This wood is thicker than the 3/8” stuff that the boat came with for these.. My issue is how tight the new piece is up front where the teak below the steering wheel meets it — about 1.5”.. I’ve sanded it a decent amount to thin that area out to give more clearance but because the wood overall is thicker it just doesn’t flex the same as the older 3/8” stuff..

So, the thought came to me of just epoxying the entire old piece and use it with a slightly larger hole cutout for the control to mount in. I just want to ensure that there’s enough ‘beef’ on the backside of the plywood to hold staples properly with the vinyl. Maybe the epoxy would help there?? If you all suggest ditching the old piece then I’ll just keep attacking the new piece with 40 grit sand paper til it conforms better...

Thoughts??

I forgot to ask.. One of the clips is missing back by the engine compartment that this wood hangs off.. Are these still available? It was apparently ok without it.. maybe I’ll just leave it be...

Ok.. I got to it with 40-grit on my Festool sander and <60 seconds later it was good to go.. Now to cut the throttle control holes and epoxy the entire enchilada..

Hi all.. I’ve got a question for ya.. I’m reading up on my gen 2 controller installation and ran across this bit.. I don’t know which my alpha one drive is but am willing to think it’s counter rotating based on a quick search of the internet.. I’m assuming it’s the direction that the prop spins?

Counter rotation is only for twin engines. Singles are all standard (clockwise) rotation. Can’t wait to see the controls mounted up!

Yup. Reggie found out he could get an extra 1 to 1 1/2 mph using the reverse rotation. We had a hydromotive 4 blade 27 Pitch chopper prop spinning counter clockwise that could push that boat to 80 with a stock 502 MAG MPI engine (which was pretty fast for 1993)

He test drove it. See the hull number. Pretty cool huh.
I was the second owner though. First owner was there for the test. He said Reggie did this on a regular basis. Some were even signed. I’m sure it was child’s play coming from the machines he raced, but fun nonetheless if boating is in your blood.

I wonder if Pack St Clair test drove my 263?

Ok. I removed the four screws holding this fiberglass cover plate in place where the lights & 12v outlets mount. There were two screws under the vinyl edging on the bottom right above the rear ashtray and one more all the way up front and one just behind the controller. I’ll be recovering the piece with 1/4” sew foam from sail-rite and then the new vinyl. At least that’s my plan for the moment. This vinyl appears to be installed with some sort of adhesive, which at this point isn’t adhering like it probably did originally. The new vinyl is bright white and should be rather contrasty compared to the now “almost tan” vinyl..

I suppose I could rip the carpet out too but will leave it as this project is big enough already.
