Ok. I removed the four screws holding this fiberglass cover plate in place where the lights & 12v outlets mount. There were two screws under the vinyl edging on the bottom right above the rear ashtray and one more all the way up front and one just behind the controller. I’ll be recovering the piece with 1/4” sew foam from sail-rite and then the new vinyl. At least that’s my plan for the moment. This vinyl appears to be installed with some sort of adhesive, which at this point isn’t adhering like it probably did originally. The new vinyl is bright white and should be rather contrasty compared to the now “almost tan” vinyl..
I suppose I could rip the carpet out too but will leave it as this project is big enough already.
Ok. I forgot to state that I need to remove this placard and put it on after the rehab.
Can I use regular rivets and maybe reuse these things on the back.. washers over again?? I’d like it to look like it originally did and not use screws & nuts if possible.

Ok yes use rivots and backing washers. Also I would replace the carpet. New viynl and old carpet no don't stop short.
Don't worry even Dad had issues with his adhesive on his first boats.

Ok.. stupid question.. is the side carpet a separate piece from the floor..? I’ll be honest that I’m ok with the gray carpet.. I might be ok with doing the wall carpet now and floor later

Btw.. should I sand or otherwise prep the now in-vinyld fiberglass panel before putting it back together? There’s some nice brown stuff here and there on it and the back of the vinyl..

I guess if your going to do it do it right once.
Do you want to keel this original. Myself I would do seagrass on the floor. No matter what I would be replacing that carpet. It would drive me nuts against the new. Your so close. Don't short cut it now.

I’m ok with doing some of this, but I also want to get this thing in the water this summer.. I can do the floor separately if it’s a different piece from the two walls..
What should I look for in descent marine carpet..? I don’t want bottom of the line now the gold lined stuff but something in the middle..
Ok.. I now realize that “Seagrass” is a brand of carpet and not a color like I had assumed! Doh!.. Someone here in the LA area must carry that stuff so I don’t have to wait yet again for something in the mail...??
Ok.. back to rivets. Is there anything that would keep me from using a washer found at my local Lowe’s or Home Depot as the backing washer for that placard? I’m thinking as long as the metals are compatible and the hole size is right it ought to work?? Am I wrong with that assumption? Thx!
You should be fine. Most hardware stores should have rivot washers though. But hey what ever works. Can you get a sign company to make you a new decal for that placard? Just thinking out loud again. I didn't hit your budget yet.

The carpet, if using the Seagreen, would hit my budget.. lol.. Unfortunately my boat budget is very small at the moment.. I’m working on a bathroom remodel which is my priority at the moment. I’m still considering though.. I’ve got to run out now to find some rivets and washers.. I wanna see how much I can get done..
Hi all… I have a stupid question as I get ready to finish up my boat for the summer…
Last winter, I did not drain the water out of the engine block. Where I live it does not generally freeze much. As I live in northern Los Angeles county and my boat is garaged.
My question to you is, should I, at the end of the season, plan on draining the water out of the engine block? I’ll admit it never occurred to me last winter. I’m hoping that was not a huge mistake!
