Sorry they didn’t catch it. Was the water test hooked up on a scanner ? Or where they just scanning for codes?

Scanned for codes first, then recorded the water test to see if Volvo could find anything out of line.

I wonder if a sensor. Crank, cam, vva is acting up. Suprised they didn't put a fuel pressure guage on it. I don't think it's fuel but rule it out Anyways. Can't wait to hear what they come up with. With today's tech it could be software.

Volvo found nothing out of line with the recorded water test.

They sent the info to one of their top guys in Ontario. He commented that there was a service issue(bulletin) with some valve trains on some 6.0 l engines.
When I plug my serial number into the Volvo recall site, it comes up with T 0056 Improved Fitting in Exhaust Riser, Status- Not Performed.

Has anyone had this work done to their 6.0 Volvo, and if so what fitting gets replaced? What if any problem was it to solve?

I can't find anything on Valve train updates or bulletins.

Service bulletins and recalls are 2 totally different repairs.

Oh I know, but I can't find anything on bulletins for the 6.0 anywhere. Just hoping someone has a link, or source to Volvo info.

Sorry if it was merc I could get you some factory help. Your dealer should be able to get that info though.

Ya it would be no problem getting Merc support. Volvo up here north of the border is hard to squeeze help from. It has taken weeks for them to look at the logged water test, and when they responded it was.. all looks good there. Left this dealer hanging, so he contacted a guy he had been on training courses with to see if he had ever run into this before.

Not as of yet, but we have come up with a plan. I'm digging it out of storage next Wed. Driving 350km back to the Volvo dealer. From any reading I've done over the winter, the engine oil needs to be in top shape to work the VVT system properly. All fluids were changed just before storage. Going to complete a service campaign on the risers fittings, change spark plugs then water test. If it still does it and dosen't log anything on the laptop during the water test we'll pull the oil control valve out to check it's function. After that, Cam sensor, then it's a call to Volvo.

Good plan. It's funny how many of our fca brand cars get their oil changed from somewhere else then runs like crap and throws a check engine light. Ours will give us a code for that. We change oil and its good to go. What weight oil are they using on these new engines? Yes lots of cam phaser issues also.

Don’t get me started on Triton motors and cam phasers.

Well it seems to have been resolved. Took the boat to the Volvo dealer 5 weeks ago, and reminded him of the popping sound from last season, the fact that the boat could only get up to 42-45 mph, and could not get to full RPM. Told them oil, oil filter and fuel filter were changed during winterization.
Asked that they change the spark plugs and do the Volvo service campaign on the exhaust risers.

They ran the boat for 1.5 hrs after replacing plugs(which they said looked fine), and doing the campain work. They said they could not get the boat to make any abnormal sounds.
I went over today to pick it up, but decided i should sea trial it before heading home.The boat now runs hard as a freight train right up to 5650 rpm. If you hold the trottle there it will creep to 5800. Half a tank of fuel and four adults on board......49.9 mph!!! That's better.

I believe the oil quality may have been the problem. I tracked the previous owner down a couple of weks ago, and asked about oil changes. he said he had asked for the oil to be changed at 50 and 100 hrs, but can't find any bills to show that it happened.

It cost me some bucks to get it straightened out, but it was worth it!

I wonder what oil would have been causing the issue? I've been using Mobil 1 15W-50 in my 5.7L Volvo, and it does just fine.
