I like to think positive. Maybe just maybe it comes back with all of the 2020 goodies on it or they just decide to give you a 2020?

If they agree to replace the boat, give up the summer and get an R6 (2021) that will be introduced in October?

My dealer told me that the R5 is not going anywhere, and the R6 that is coming out is to fill the void Cobalt has in the 26-27 foot range. Right now, any new R5 that are being ordered will be a 2020. He is having a discussion with Cobalt on Monday since the only thing I will accept is a brand new replacement. Stay tuned.

Go get um. I'm not worried. I see Cobalt in your future. My issue is if I was making payments on a boat and can't use that boat. Other than that it will work out. Thanks for the updates.
Heck I hated making payments on my Harley in the winter and that was only a 100 bucks a month.

Your dealer is wrong. R5 and R6 will both sell at the same time into 2020 as R5 production winds down and bots sell through and will be replaced by the R6 during the2020 model year.

I’m not going to post the email I have but I don’t think your dealer has the facts right. The discussion started on this forum after a member read a Facebook post on the Cobalt site that was quickly taken down. I sought clarification from Cobalt and the above is what I was told.

All I'm saying is if the OP is going to return his boat and get a new one built to his specifications in its place, why not wait until October and see what the R6 looks like. It might be a leap forward in interior and exterior design, or it might be a "decontent mission" by Cobalt (under new Malibu ownership) to save money and improve profitability.

Looking at some of the new boats (Regal, etc.) it looks like the trend is to make interior space more versatile, so I wouldn't be surprised to see the swivelling Del Mar captains seat replaced by a seat similar to that currently on the port side (fixed with a flipping seat back). There are other changes in the boats introduced in the last year, so perhaps some of those improvements will make it into the R6, R8.

In any event, the OP would have a choice of both the R5 (dealer in stock boats) and the new R6. If it takes another month to work things out, it will almost be the start of August, two months away from the new model introduction. But, in the end, who knows what Cobalt is going to do for the OP. They can either repair or replace under the factory warranty. Anything else is a goodwill gesture.

Latest update: Cobalt agreed to build me a 2020 R5 and let me use my current boat while they build that one out. I have not got the full financial picture on this yet as I am adding some options but sounds like everything is going to workout. My dealer is supposed to get with me early next week to finalize everything.

I’m considering changing the hull color because the blue on blue I had shows every imperfection. Considering the grey hull with a baby blue stripe.

Here’s the grey option. Which one would you vote for?

There is a shale r7 on my dock. It shows a lot better in person. Really nice color.

Ice Blue is pretty nice. Unique on lake and easy to keep clean. Reminiscent of an offshore Hatteras, or Viking, but I might be biased!

You just can't say enough about Cobalt customer service. My dealer just got my new R3 prepped and when I read a customer service story like yours, I know I picked the right manufacturer to build me a boat. BR
