Responding to this post....since this heater system is tied to the water pump -closed cooling system, the antifreeze protects it. Thus, no winterizing required.

So then all you have to do is use your handy air pump and drain the fresh side.. gotta love mercs for that!!

Technically yes. Although I still pump a mix of antifreeze through the freshwater side to be safe.

Do you even winterize given how far south you live? Where I live I'm lucky if I even see 1 or 2 frosts on the windshield in the winter.

Oh yeah I complete the "W" process. Some winters you don't need to, but we tend to get ice storms instead of snow storms here. Ice on the power lines and out she goes. Then the heater is out, and next thing you know- cracked block.

Last winter we had 2 really cold spells where the temp stayed down in the single digits for 2-3 days. That's enough to do some damage.

I perform the "w" and have 2 heaters in the bilge (primary and backup). Thinking of cutting down to only one this season.

Some folks just lower the boat into the water during the cold spells. The water temp rarely gets below the mid 50s. I travel a lot and I know the cold front will hit while I'm out of town or when I need to go out of town. I don't like my boat setting in the water for long periods.

I've seen more boats for sale in Texas with cracked blocks or new engines.

I have an engine heater and it does the trick. It stays a little warm in East TX than the beautiful Hill Country. If it gets too bad I just pull the boat out and put it in the storage unit. As a matter of fact Iput both the boat and the wave runner in there yesterday. Since Harvey took my boat last year my new rule is if there is a named storm in the Gulf all water toys out of the pool! Take that Gordo!

Me too. I thought of converting mine to an fittings with a valve and second port. Haven't gotten around to it yet.

Me too. I thought of converting mine to an fittings with a valve and second port. Haven't gotten around to it yet.

I have all parts...just need to find the time. No matter what I will do it prior to “w”. I’ll document the process.
