Will be on a lake 90% of the time. We have mostly mud/clay bottoms. Very few clean rocky bottom lakes in my area of NC. And about 10% at the beach. Would be a docked type set up. Inner coastal, etc.

Thought about the windlass however the muddy bottom thing. Please note I dont have any experience with one. Would hate to have a muddy anchor on the front of the boat. Im sure I could clean it off but can see it being a hassle getting it clean enough to have the anchor out front on the boat. Figuring with a normal anchor I could store it in a bag or trash bag somewhat dirty. ??

Let's see if Matt will chime in. He knows how to get them to self clean. Also I could be wrong but I think you can get a hose up there too clean them off?

Either with a windlass or any of my anchors I pull them to just below the surface to inspect for mud, weeds etc.

Lock it or tie it off a couple feet under water and back up 10 feet and instantly rinsed clean.

Was afraid of this! Another must have option. Currently in discussion with the dealer on a different tailer. The Load Master. Not crazy about spending another 4k but sounds like you feel yours is money well spent. Good to know on cleaning off. Curious what type of bottom you have or do you see different types of lake bottom (ocean?)...we have clay and mud... thank you!

I am another pro windlass person. I'm done chucking/retrieveing anchors. Our R5 has one and it served us well this summer. One of our lakes we frequesnt is very muddy. We often pull up an anchor full of goo. Leave it just below the water line, motor around a bit, and it will clean off. It also has an all chain rode, so even if I don't work really hard to get a good hook, a pile of chain on the bottom works about as well!

Just something else to be concerned about, the trailer for a windlass boat is different. The bow roller is absent and moved for anchor clearance.

Delta is mud, sand, clay and weeds. Considering your usually are backing up anyway after pulling up the anchor its a snap to clean.

Imagine watching your shiny stainless anchor bumping in place, and the only task you have is attaching the lock tether. Of course your friends asking "that it? all done ?" is special too

Update...

The boat goes into production on 2/9. I have order a LOADMASTER trailer as per a few members suggestion. Excited for both to arrive in early April. After a bunch of consideration I went with a pretty loaded up fresh water trailer. Originally was going to bomb proof it so I could drop it in the salt. However changed my mind and went with sling pockets in the event I want to get the boat down at the coast. Instead of spending the money on galvanized, stainless hardware, disc brakes, etc.. I went with a torsion axle, side glides, front ladder and aluminum wheels. The trailer will be black with white writing. Will post some pic soon when trailer goes into production.

Thank you to all who have posted. Been really helpful. I have a few more weeks to change options before boat begins production.
