Re: What boat? New to the forum.
John, our hero administrator, also posted a great checklist to be used if finding a used boat to purchase. A great reference to help in minimizing your risk before handing over that check.

There was trash in several of the compartments, things like empty wine bottles, couple beer cans, etc etc. Couple ski jackets and inflatables still in the boat, you get the idea. Not sure if they had some financial troubles and just had to let her go or what. Still had the 2016 winterization tag on the steering wheel so looks like it was at least put away correctly and they just didn't get it out this season.Big Block Power wrote: Tue Aug 08, 2017 10:09 pmHave you seen this boat? We looked at it when they just listed it at 35k...its been reduced to 26k now... If you don't mind detailing and fixing some fiberglass you could get a deal.
We upgraded to the 222 this year and love it... Great boat to lounge and still pull a skier or tuber.
Might not be a bad flip for me?
As far as the condition of the boat, it was pretty easy to walk away at 35,900 which was the original ask, at 25,900 it would be a more difficult decision. You could tell the previous owners were either new to boating, or just didn't spend the time to take care of her, but either way it was nothing a ton of Boat Bling and some fiberglass work wouldn't fix. Lot of dirt on the seats, but no tears or anything serious. Most notable thing we saw was several pretty good gouges in the fiberglass. Looks like someone had some trouble hitting things with the bow, like I said perhaps new boaters. There was a stress crack or two as well in the fiberglass, not sure if that was from hitting something or what.
Pretty standard optioned boat, Volvo 5.7, grey interior, no premium sound, just a basic 222. We decided it wasn't the boat for us pretty quickly so I didn't dig too much into the engine compartment, but the boating center did claim they had done a compression test and it came back good. It was sitting on the trailer a bit differently than other 222's I have seen including ours. Didn't look like the trailer was long enough which caused more of the back of the boat to sit off the bunks. Could just be my eyes tricking me, but I think the sales guy mentioned something about it as well.
So cliff notes, with a weekend or two of detailing and some fiberglass work you could walk away with a pretty nice Cobalt for 25k. Not a terrible deal at all.
Well made then a offer so we will see. Thanks for the report. Maybe I'll get on Norris lake yet this year.lol

BB, any chance you can tell us what you do with your project boats and what your end game is with them? Also ok if that is private

Yup, we are in Louisville and boat at Dale Hollow with maybe a once a year trip to Cumberland. Never made the trip to Norris but have heard good things.

Re: What boat? New to the forum.
I really try to stick to what I know and what our market likes. The 20-22ft boats are great boats around me. I know what the market will bring and I watch for a good value and I normally don't want to get too deep into repairs. It's got to be mechanically sound. The rest can be fixed. You have to know what it's going to cost to get it in great condition. I don't put a price on my time as I do it for fun not a job. I'm not afraid to tackle too much on them. Anything else I missed let me know. My goal on my crownline red 225 was to sell it in a month. My boat b bought was to have it sold by March. I always have a goal to sell it by date. I started this to pay cash for the boat I have now. now my next goal was to help pay down the truck. I also need about $10-15k to jump into my next boat I want for myself.ajcampen wrote: Wed Aug 09, 2017 8:29 pm BB, any chance you can tell us what you do with your project boats and what your end game is with them? Re: What boat? New to the forum.
I've never had a merc so don't pretend to know anything but as I've mentioned elsewhere this is my 3rd vp and I've never had a problem. I do take food care and do maintenance items but fluid and filters and a new impeller every so often is my total history of maintenance. And I love the salt water! Stop dragging salty boats through the mud! Come on down and you'll like it too! We need a beach regatta down here...

That's awesome. Wish i had the time or the know-how to do that. I'm also "in love" with my boat so that's a problem right there.Big Block Power wrote: Wed Aug 09, 2017 8:45 pmI really try to stick to what I know and what our market likes. Re: What boat? New to the forum.
I don't get attached to my boats or motorcycles. So it's easy to let them go. It's fun to a point to bring them back around. My wife just knitted another one will show up in the garage so no worries
It was kind of rough and windy today and this boat just handles the water so nice.

I love my vehicles also, but I can fall out of love without a tear, and can divorce them with ease.

Re: What boat? New to the forum.
This might fit the bill...
2003 240 - $27,500
- Big block
- Volvo DP
- Factory wake tower
- Low hours (252)
- New seagrass carpet
- Newer tandem trailer (2014)
- New outdrive
- Bow and cockpit covers
- Bimini
https://atlanta.craigslist.org/nat/boa/ ... 89054.html
I'd do a bit of sleuthing on the outdrive -- why was it replaced, who did the work, was it new, receipts?
