I get real stickly over sound and prefer clear and bright but good bass not overpowering. Pretty happy with the premium system Rockford fosgate with amp and sub. Don't have the rear speakers on the stern and plan to add either same just to march or if not will prob go JL or wetsounds for those 2. Like the pic of the JL. Not much room there so prob have to stay with 6.5".

I wanted to get by without changing out the entire system (just a speaker upgrade) but I'm not sure I would get very much bang for my buck leaving the rest original.

Let me know if you decide to replace your MB Quart speakers. I am looking for some MB Quart 6.5's.

Will do, it might be a while before I pull the trigger.

I had MB Quartz installed in a 300Z. It always sounded too bright to me.

Give Crutchfield a call. I spoke with the technician this morning (Kevin) who was very helpful in answering my questions before I ordered.
I mentioned I have the same head unit. It's a great unit. Just a heads up bc I made this mistake. I had a complete system done and had it installed professionally. Halfway through the season I noticed the bass sounded like crap. I have a 10 inch sub with 300 watts pushing it and the gains were adjusted by the installer. I was kind of pissed because I thought I blew the sub and I have yet to go above 70% total volume because the hull should blow before the speakers haha anyways my buddy does high end home automation and used to do marine installs in high school and college at his fathers marina. He told me to check the quick equalizer on the head unit. Sure enough I had jammed some stuff in the console at some point and accidentally pressed a different setting. As soon as I changed it there was an instant improvement back to normal. If he hadn't told me I may have had a delightful phone call with Wet sounds.

Thx skSm! Great input. 👍🏻
I'll make sure to check the settings after the Sony swap out.

Hope to do that this week.

Certainly not plug and play.
Spent a couple of hours getting old head unit out. Side keys would not allow it to budge.
Just took entire panel off.

Then started cutting and splicing in wires.

Sirius XM ports are different too. Ughhhh

Old head unit had rca jacks labeled "bus audio in".
What is that for?

New one does not have that.
Pic below. Blue tape on backside is the new unit.

I believe your "bus audio in" is the same as Aux in.

Well I figured out the "bus in" was also for the days when "satellite ready" receivers were around. That's how they hooked them up--with a bus controller. --& that's why my inputs were used. I could not figure it out at first. Then you guys gave me the idea with the cd changer control.

Anyways, now that there is only Sirius XM radio these days, all that bus control crap is eliminated. It's just one serial port on the back now. No more bus inputs.

The new head unit is in!

All wiring complete.

I now have Bluetooth, Satellite; aux; pandora; CD; tuner; and hands free phone on the boat.

Yay!

Btw, my subwoofer seems to be vibrating. Might be the surround.

Anyone know how to remove the white speaker grill??
