The impellers can also do the same thing up here in the NE. Some remove them to keep them from taking that "bent" shape during the winter.

Makes sense. Regarding impeller...don't know about most others but my personal maintenance schedule calls for a new impeller every spring. Been stranded an hour up Lake Powell and in the middle of Apache Lake by failed impellers, at $30-35 and < 1 hour work it's cheap trip insurance IMO.

I replace mine every other year.
I do agree cheap insurance .

What is the difficulty level to change merc impeller? Volvo looks like it is easy to access vs merc

It’s got to come out tomorrow for the garage door guys to install the correct door windows. And again because the factory tender somehow died, and my dealer is sending someone over to replace it.


Regarding the impeller, I never changed it in 13 years on my last boat. Never realized it was a service item that needed to be replaced. No way it’s original. I have to believe my dealer must have been doing it on a schedule since they took care of everything. I dropped it off at years end, I get a call a week later, and I pick it up. That’s the extent of my input..
No wonder I never had an issue with my old boat. Same dealer I bought the Cobalt from.

The last boat had a wheel cover that came with the boat. We were at a friend's place so the boat sat outside. Some rain did get into mine. My boats are normally sitting in the garage so it wasn't a big deal. But I was wondering If you put a small brass grommet in the bottom of the cover if the water would drain.

Yes, since our precious 263 sits outside when not in "hibernation" mode, I would need something like that (brass grommet) as I think the water would collect where our spare tire is-- and you know how that goes...

Dirty deed done to my blue one today. Oil an filter, water drained, winterized, and bilge scrubbed. Cleaned out the whole boat and removed the batteries. Only a couple of little things to address and she's ready to go down the river.
