Tgrace it was interesting to hear that they pulled specs on boats in 20 some odd past years of building and could not hardly find any boat built the same.

At least I think that's what he said. Anyone else catch that?

Correct every boat is built with diff specs and options. Pretty crazy. What that means is us Cobalt owners like everything a bit diff then each other.

This doesn’t surprise me. Of the 30 boats on my dock. Probably 18-20 of them are cobalts. And not a single one is the same color scheme, model, year, or options.

Spring is getting close and I'm still considering an R3. I think a new boat may be out of the question this season due to the 10% import tariff which adds about $15,000 CAD ($11,000 USD) to the cost, plus the cost of the boat itself.

I did find a local R3 that I am considering. It is a 2014 R3 with Volvo V8/320 DP, docking lights, bimini, bow and cockpit covers, carpet, wood trim dash, trim tabs and possibly an upgraded sound system. It has 100 hours on it and has been kept in a boathouse, lifted from the water when not in use, so the hull and outdrive look new.

So, the boat must be past its powertrain warranty. Its offered at around $67,000 USD without a trailer. Any thoughts on keeping my 1 year in the water 210 (2016) with 30 hours vs the R3 described above?

Will the R3 fit on the EZPort? I can't imagine it will. How does that fit into your plans?

Only you can answer the money question. Is the R3 a nicer boat than the 210? Of course it is. But that nice comes /w a price tag. Seems like a nicely optioned boat. Think you can handle a 320hp V8?

In the end, the marina decided the EZ Port for larger boats is not reliable enough for them to buy it and would have wanted a 6-year commitment from the boat owner in any event. So, sadly I'll continue to moor in the water and have the bottom acid washed and polished each year.

I'm thinking a 320 V8 DP would be more than enough for this boat and should drive it close to 50 mph (for those who care about that sort of thing). I'd be without a powertrain warranty though and the out of pocket to make the switch is about $25,000 CAD ($19,000 USD) - easily manageable for me. I also was hoping for a glass cockpit of the 2017+ boats. This boat doesn't have that but does have a GPS nav screen between the two round analogue instruments.

I believe it is dark blue with a gray boot stripe. It ticks most of the boxes. So, I guess I have to make a decision ...

Don't lie to me BobRay, you care about that sort of thing. We all do. Our 222 hits about 51 or 52 full out with just me and Katie on it. With the dual prop I agree that's enough motor. Plus you would be moving up to a V8. Congrats.

You made the decision. Pen the check, get your 210 on the market and enjoy next season in your R3.

The R3 is a nice boat. From an engine standpoint, I have the 300 VP DP and it's been great for watersports, whether loaded or unloaded. You might be 1-2 mph short on the top end of what the larger engines can bring, but out of the hole and midrange, it works well. Besides, if you can tell 2mph on the top end without a gps you're better than me. Heck, on our lakes, I can't find enough open water without traffic to even get it past 30 ish

Maybe you can make sailor a offer. He will be seeing snow in July. Just do it you have been talking for a year about it. You da man you can handle a bb go get it done. I'm sure you have lots of room behind you too very that baby in your slip. We can add bow thrusters. Minn-Kota is having a sale this month.

It’s an older model than what you currently have that also lacks what your original goal was. It would require an extended warranty, and not the factory coverages you desire. You will long for what a 2019 R3 has in improvements overall. Regardless of power.

My 3 cents as I’ve said this before.
Money is long forgotten after having what you wanted..... is remembered and in possession.

Actually, I won't have to put my boat on the market if I decide to go ahead with the purchase, my dealer has it in brokerage so it will be a trade plus the difference in the taxes. the boat show is on in a couple of weeks, so I'll have to make a decision before then - or I'm sure it will sell. It lives in a boathouse that is nicer than most peoples houses and doesn't appear to have a mark on it.

Perfect old boat is practically sold. Don't listen to Matt, start the season off right /w a new R3.

Buy it and like it. If you want new and still enjoy the r3 after this summer then buy a new one or if this one fits your needs after this season keep it. Or buy a R5 next year because this one got to small.
