Yeah, I think just about everything ST only shows a rating of 65mph.
Might be something to them if they are rated at 85!

My suspension is leaf springs. And the guy I bought the boat from had just bought the trailer last fall to move his boat, right before I bought it. They could have been on there for a year or so? BB I'll look a little closer later this week for the build date.

I had checked the pressure on all 4 the day before, and I do a walk around visual check of tires, hitch, chains, etc everytime I stop. Always have for years. I may have hit something in the road.

Specific for the Good Year Marathon, there was a great post on the Hull Truth about running a higher pressure to better handle higher speeds. The post included a bulletin from Good Year stating inflating up to 60 PSI would facilitate 70 MPH towing. Personally, I run 55 PSI which seems to control temp at 70 MPH and still give an acceptable ride. When I replace my tires next year I do plan on going up a rating to a heavier duty tire. I do carry a spare and an impact gun. :)

I was running right at 50 pounds. I didn't realize there is a speed rating... It sure wouldn't be the first time speed has gotten me in trouble. It's a proven fact my right foot is heavier than my left. Just come ride with me sometime! It's unnatural. Maybe my screen name should be club foot?

Don't blame your foot. ST tires are always a worry, especially the smaller C or D rated. That's why I went with 16" E rated tires that run 80 lbs. hopefully they won't blow...

Yep. E rated for those heavier boats for sure. I never heard it was ok to bump up the pressures. I run 50psi as well. That is the max on the tire. I don't think GY would every say that do to legal issues. Endurance will be my next tire. I push my trailer tires way too much. Going to Branson through the mountains well over 80 mph way too many times.

JMO,
Personally, I would never over inflate a tire. Trailer tires do not benefit from daily use, parked for months at a time, often are overloaded and take that overload at speed in the heat of the summer. Make sure you have rated for your load with some extra room, and toss them out after a max of 5 years.

Also - I always say this but constantly check the lugs on trailer tires, they get loose more than you think they would.

I just bought a battery operated impact wrench for trips. Always wanted one. Yes I have a lug nut wrench in the truck box along with a block of wood and a hydraulic bottle Jack.

I've never had a lug nut come loose. Very lucky I guess, but I'll be stopping a few time to check.
I'll also be packing a jack just in case. Cant forget tossing in some duct tape just because no tool box is complete without some duct tape. :D
