Live and learn. I'm not completely happy with the mounting location of my SIMRAD. I chose the factory mounting location, but if I had to do it over I would pick another spot. As you can see in the photos, the steering wheel runs across the screen which makes you lean to one side to see the whole screen clearly. It'll work, but could be better. I have the original "cubby hole" and if need be I can mount in a alternative position if it causes too much heartache.

That's why I didn't ask you.:-)

I couldn't drill holes in the top of the dash. I rather drill holes in the hull.

I mounted mine up on the left side of the dash. I used a Ram mount on the windshield brace and a 3" ram. I think it's going to work good.

My boat is at the canvas shop untilTuesday afternoon so I'll get a picture of it when I get it back.

I ordered one of those Ram mounts https://www.rammount.com/part/RAM-111U after reading this thread - should make it much easier to wedge the chartplotter I bought between the dash and the windshield. I'll report back when the boat is out of hibernation...

I didn't want to drill any holes John. Right now I'm using the windshield brace but I think I'm going to try a double windshield mount like this. It'll need the ball bolted to it and a short ram

Got my new chart plotter up and running. Still have to adjust the settings and learn how to use it, but I'm overall happy with the setup. Photos shown are with the stock insight charts. May upload high resolutions charts later.

Here's another one showing the chart and the nav on the same screen.

Very nice. Is it big enough to see while driving? I would like it for any lake other than my home lake though. That's pretty cool.

Yes, I think it will be large enough to see at night when I really need it. I thought about going with the GO7 which is the next size up, but I was afraid it would be too large for the space. I think the larger screen would be better, but it an improvement over the App on my phone.
