closed until end of summer? Seems a bit drastic.

Agreed. Obviously the order can be reversed. Makes me wonder if there is some overplay to stress the importance.

I stopped going to playgrounds a long time ago so it’s low impact for me

With something like 860,000 registered boats in a state of 5.6 million, no way. The lakes and boat launches are all open and we are in a 14 day stay at home period right now. They could never enforce it anyway with 12,500 lakes. They could close some public beaches but zero possibility of not letting boaters out on the water here where we have way more boaters per capita than any other state. It's a way of life in MN.

They don't have to worry about catching everyone to make people comply. Up here first offence for non compliance is $1000, 2nd offence is $2000, 3rd $10,000.

It's amazing how once they started publishing about people receiving fines how physically distancing has improved.
Parks and beaches closed, anyone caught there gets the fine and their vehicle seized(cars, trucks, ATV, boats).

Most Boat and RV storage businesses are drafting new storage agreements for the summer season, as they know most boats won't be coming out of storage by the middle of June, as covered by the standard storage agreements in these parts.

Well. In one of the counties the dnr is closing one the launches. I didn't think we would see it here. Not a good sign.

Many marinas have sent out notices that they are closed to the public, with a further direction on May 1st. If they are only able to start splashing docks in at that time, it will be a late start for sure.

The fishing opener(May 9th this year) is a big deal in Minnesota attracting about 500,000 anglers to the lakes. It is still open this year as are all boat ramps they are just suggesting fishing closer to home. From the DNR:

“We’re pleased to let anglers across the state know that the 2020 season will open as planned,” Sarah Strommen, DNR commissioner, said in the same statement from Walz. “We encourage anglers to start planning for new ways to enjoy the tradition of the Minnesota Fishing Opener close to home and in ways that also protect public health.”

She added that the DNR urges anglers to use good judgement when choosing where to fish, not only on the opener, but “this season.”

“While we want people to enjoy outdoor activity to maintain health and wellbeing, we’re asking anglers to forgo travel to their favorite fishing spot and instead fish close to home to contain the spread of COVID-19. We also want to remind anglers to maintain social distancing at boat landings,” Strommen said.

Missouri is considering boat dealers, gas docks, and repair shops as essential like regular car dealers. Some marina's have closed to the public and are only providing services to slip holders and some are going to self service. But that is just until May 1 here so far.

TG, Yes I was at the lake last week. CP was open but you couldn't walk on the docks from shore. They have the docks pulled in as far as they can and still 5 feet or so from shore. Boats were out! Hopefully, the C-19 will pass and the lake level will go down and we can enjoy some boating??

Talked to my dealer again today....they were originally closed, but applied for essential status and were granted "critical" status. Service and parts are open and they are allowed to have 1 mechanic on staff for each bay, if I understand. They are pulling boats out of storage and starting to schedule pick ups.....so that's a little bit of good news.... BTW, I was asked if I wanted to summarize the boat. With no head or water system, what else is there other than fuel filter, batteries, check the hoses and maybe start on muffs? All other service was done at winterization....

Not that I expect to be on the water any time soon...ice out was just this week and it was 17 degrees Saturday morning....

I just filled up at long creek (big cedar) they said they are open and won’t be closing as they are essential status. So let the boating begin!
