Coated Cables scare the daylights out of me. My last trailer had them and I accidentally pulled away without unhooking them while in a hurry. At less than 5 miles/hour-----SNAP. One of the cables let go. Water had apparently gotten into the coating and rusted the cable through. Only one of the cables snapped, which tells me had this happened at road speed, the trailer would have had still had one cable attached and likely have caused the trailer to go out of control. The trailer was about 7 years old. My new trailer has cables as well----I'm looking into replacing with chains this spring.
GM recalled their tailgate cables for that exact reason. Ok we all better check our cables. Leave them attached after you disconnect your boat and put your small SUV tow vehicle in gear and just punch it quick. If it holds your ok.
