If they aren't on version 15 I would suggest doing the upgrade. It took about 15 minutes and it just loads on a micro sd card. Stick it in the left garmin and it will sense the upgrade right away.
Did you lose things like fuel calibration and other config after upgrading the firmware?

Looks like version 15.10 came out a few weeks ago.

Changes made from version 15.00 to 15.10:
Fixed an issue where the autopilot bar could lose highlight when using a GRID.
Other improvements and bug fixes.

Nope all it does is upgrade the firmware.

If you buy an extra micro sd card you can backup all your settings first

I'll have to check my software version when I'm at the lake tomorrow. It seems to boot up in 15 - 20 seconds, so I assume it is the current version.

I understand that before the update it was taking over a minute. I don't find mine a bother at 15 - 20 seconds. I don't stop and start that much (OK, maybe when we start skiing I will).

Thanks Greenhut,

I am enjoying the boat. It's taken a few trips on the lake to adjust to the difference in handling between the 210 (10 series) I had last year and this boat. The R3 handles great, but you can tell there is more to this boat than 2' and 600 lbs. The deeper hull of the Series makes this a much bigger handling boat. It really cuts the chop down though, which I appreciate.

I think the boat looks pretty sharp in Ebony/Red boot stripe. The red boot stripe gets lost a bit in pictures but shows nicely in daylight. I saw an R5 at my dealer that was Ebony/White edge stripe/Red bottom that looked amazing, but I couldn't get that combination because I moor in a wet slip, which I was told can cause "blooming" of the colour below the waterline.

A few people have commented that the docking lights are not good. I haven't come in after dark yet, but I did motor in at dusk and fiddled with the boat bit and towards dark tried them out while moored. I thought they were fine - better than holding a portable spotlight and trying to steer at the same time. The true test will be when I come in after dark.

My dealer talked me out of trim tabs, but I'll have the factory kit added by my dealer at the end of the season. I'm a little OCD - I like to have the boat running flat and not have to tell people where to sit. Hopefully the option won't cost me more than it would have form the factory (dealer favour?).

The premium sound (without tower speakers) sounds really good. I kind of got to the limit of my spend, so I said no to Platinum at the last second. It's not much more and adds 2 x 10" sub (instead of 1 x 8" sub) plus more powerful amplifiers. Overall, I like the sound of the premium - so much better than the base sound in my 210) and I think it is a great system. Still, if you like deeper base, the platinum isn't much more.

I'm sure its hard to wait until August for your new boat. :)

I need therapy for the wait, and I have a perfectly functioning boat!

We also chose Premium Sound without transom speakers for similar reasons.

Not really sure how much we'll use the trim tabs, but I am also a bit OCD and want everything just right. Only thing I didnt like were more holes in the boat, more weight, and risk of the dry stack forks damaging them.

Our current boat has docking lights and they never get used. Only place we dock at night is our marina and it is well lit.

Glad you are enjoying and cant wait to report back on my first ride!
