Re: New Member & My CM23
Man....I'm reading all the posts from you guys up in the northern states and ask myself again, how you do it. Snow it April would kill me. I don't even like snow in the winter. Our weather has been really good the past few weeks and while it has been helpful in allowing me to work on the Cobalt it's killing me that I'm not on the water yet.
In the past few days I got the new carpet installed and glued down in the cuddy cabin. With that task complete I can measure and cut foam for the new cushions. This will allow my wife to start with the covers for the cushions. We have done a number of upholstery jobs on past boats but it was always a challenge not having a commercial sewing machine. Late last year I got a great deal on a commercial machine made by Sailrite. My wife was a bit miffed that I spent over $600 for a sewing machine but she used it last week sewing the Sunbrella swim platform cover. She's lovin' me now though....
For those that are do-it-your-selfers and don't know about Sailrite you should check them out. www.sailrite.com They have lot's of marine fabrics and supplies for canvas covers and tops and a lot of hard-to-find items plus some pretty cool how-to videos.
Along with the carpet I finished the installation of the side panels and the teak that goes with it. I still have to fasten the bottom of the panel to the inside of the hull to actually finish but there is some wiring back there that I still need to access. How does this look? I have to go to the Los Angeles area next week to be with my daughter that is having surgery so everything is going to have sit for a week but still shooting for Memorial Day Weekend to be on the water.

Re: New Member & My CM23
Thanks. This was a 6-month project that has entered year 3. I bought these cup holders 2 1/2 years ago and at the time I wasn't planning to be doing this much. I do have some blue LEDs I am considering adding to the cockpit....someplace. My problem is I don't have a switch for them in the panels. I would have to hide one somewhere as the panel is finished.Big Block Power wrote: Sat Apr 21, 2018 6:38 am Very sweet. No leds in the cup holders. Oh man. Are you putting any in the side pockets. Right now my focus is to just get this thing finished and in the water. And I don't want to do everything, right? I'll need something to "piddle" with. Isn't that what us boaters do?

The color combination of the teak and the two colors of vinyl really looks great.

I think so too but nice to hear it from others. I also like how the embroidered Cobalt logo is very subtle. You can't tell from the pic but while the thread is the same color as the vinyl, the thread is kind of shiney. I like it.Driller wrote: Sat Apr 21, 2018 9:22 am The color combination of the teak and the two colors of vinyl really looks great.

Re: New Member & My CM23
Man, I am so frustrated.... I was making really great progress on the boat and had to stop so I could go to LA to be with my daughter. She is a 44-year old, single Mom and was diagnosed last month with breast cancer. A week ago today the performed a double mastectomy in a nearly 8 hour procedure. Remarkably, she went home the late the next day. I came home last Monday so I lost that week.
Now, while in LA, I picked up a bug and I have been sicker than a dog....and I never get sick. The doc says a bad cold but all I want to do is sleep....between fits of heavy coughing. I see me losing this week as well.
I know it's just a boat and it will be finished when it's finished but I have been working on this thing for 3 1/2 years and I am so close.... Oh well

Nola.. our thoughts go out to your daughter and your entire family, and it appears she is as tough as you are. I would also imagine your daughter knows your enduring passion for many things.
I look forward to your family and yourself with quick recoveries and more tales of restoration and NOLA adventures.

Re: New Member & My CM23
This week I finished installing all of the carpet. This carpet is all glue-in so it was a bit of a challenge getting all the pieces cut and glued in. I have also finished tidying up all of the wiring issues and buttoned it all up with the exception of the fuel tank sender which will go in tomorrow when I install the fuel tank.
I can't finish the floor quite yet as I need to put the boat in the water and run it so I can determine the location for the new transducer. Four of the six seats are finished and this weekend I am going to start assembling the helm seat/engine cover. Also this weekend the bulkheads/cabinets will start going back in. It's getting close and it's hard not to rush and make a mistake.
Here it is cleaned up and waiting seats, cabinets and teak trim.

Impressive job. Don't rush anything, you'll be looking at it forever. That's the problem with do-it-yourself, you know where every flaw it located.
