In all seriousness, after owning both chains & coated galvanized cable, I prefer the latter (assuming they are in great condition).

Coated Cables scare the daylights out of me. My last trailer had them and I accidentally pulled away without unhooking them while in a hurry. At less than 5 miles/hour-----SNAP. One of the cables let go. Water had apparently gotten into the coating and rusted the cable through. Only one of the cables snapped, which tells me had this happened at road speed, the trailer would have had still had one cable attached and likely have caused the trailer to go out of control. The trailer was about 7 years old. I take the blame for not checking more thoroughly, but spot inspections revealed nothing.
My new trailer has cables as well----I'm looking into replacing with chains this spring.
t GM recalled their tailgate cables for that exact reason. Ok we all better check our cables. Leave them attached after you disconnect your boat and put your small SUV tow vehicle in gear and just punch it quick. If it holds your ok. If nojust replace them
I did something like that once and it took most of the curly out of my cables,I'm not saying how it happened but it was on a fairly main road and I was thoroughly embarrassed

I'm going to stick with chains. We had cables on the trailer that came with our 2003 Tige and I never really liked them.

I looked yesterday I have curly cables too. If you see rust like t55500000 on your cables replace them. They've been compromised.

Took another look at my old Tow & Stow hitch. It goes up to 5.5" of rise, where the one I've been using is 3" rise. It runs into clearance issues with this little metal strip that runs across the bottom of the bumper trim (there's a little bit of clearance on the top edge, pic doesn't show it). I put a couple layers of Gorilla tape where that strip contacts the hitch, hopefully that will be enough to keep it from getting scratched up. Heading over in a few minutes to pick up the boat, will see how level it sits with another 2-2.5" rise.

Well I think this Tow & Stow hitch gets it close enough. Front eye bolt is about 1/4" lower than the rear now. Trailer sits pretty close to level.
