Hey now, we have both grass and trees! See, here's a couple blades of grass if you squint just right, and I'm pretty sure at least one tree. Might be dead though. Hard to tell. The grass also might be a tree, or a bush. Possibly a cactus. Or a scorpion, they all kinda look the same.Ytmsn wrote: Wed Mar 28, 2018 7:42 pm It's interesting what one of us is willing to endure in our part of the world that another of us shun. Out where Thunder lives is hot. No grass or trees, but heat. At Tuscanys is snows like a beotch. There are bugs and mosquitos in Nolas neck of the woods that are big enough to rape a crow.
That's what I love about this family of innerweb weirdos we're all a part of!

nola, too bad (for me) you're not in Cali anymore. I'd love to trailer the boat out there and make the Catalina crossing with someone who knows what they are doing.

I've still got friends in SoCal. I can hook you up. I have a good friend who owns a couple of restaurants on the water in Long Beach. He also owns a 28' Chris Craft Corsair like this.... He goes to Catalina almost every week. You could tag along with him.thunder550 wrote: Fri Mar 30, 2018 5:29 pmHey now, we have both grass and trees! Well, IMO, make your changes while you are young, and before you get rooted in with job/business/family..nolaboater99 wrote: Wed Mar 28, 2018 4:24 pmIf it were my choice, SW Florida is where I'd be....Tuscany wrote: Wed Mar 28, 2018 10:13 amHahaha, it’s not quite that easy for us. Our roots are a little deep. When the cold gets old, we have a home in SW Florida that breathes life back in during the winter.
It’s hard to imagine why, but this is our home, better or worse.. The BEST summers (even if it’s only for a day), four beautiful seasons, no mudslides, forest fires, snakes, bugs that carry you away, hurricanes, tornados, extreme heat that can wreck a summer day, water for all to drink forever, basically safe and non violent, and a caring attitude is normal. And it kind of tough to find good snowmobiling in the south.

We just have Andrew Coumo to deal with.
I love where I live, but make no mistake, I LOVE Bonita Springs Florida.
SW Florida is great, but man is it getting over run with snow birds. The traffic during season is unreal. Forget about going out to eat unless you are willing to wait an hour for a table.

Re: Going to the Bahamas!!!!
Not sure I agree about the changes while young. I retired in 2016 at 66 years old and my wife and I sold the home in Sacramento, said goodbye to the kids and granddaughters and moved to the New Orleans area to be closer to my wife's family....and it's a s**tload cheaper that Cal. When the kids want to visit we buy the plane ticket.Tuscany wrote: Sat Mar 31, 2018 8:22 amWell, IMO, make your changes while you are young, and before you get rooted in with job/business/family..nolaboater99 wrote: Wed Mar 28, 2018 4:24 pmIf it were my choice, SW Florida is where I'd be....Tuscany wrote: Wed Mar 28, 2018 10:13 amHahaha, it’s not quite that easy for us. You can rub it in....
You know, it seems those changes can only occur to the young or retired. I rolled the dice and missed.
I don’t ever think I can move there permanently. Home is home, but we have the best of both worlds now.
Although.....if we have the chance to live on the water down there.......

Re: Going to the Bahamas!!!!
When looking to move here, it was my plan to have a home on the water with the boat "in the back yard." How naive of me.... You can get a pretty nice home here with access to the Gulf of Mexico starting at about $250,000 but I was quickly told by my realtor that I did not want to be in that area. And my wife told me it was too far from her Mother's home. So there ya go.... Not complaining too much. I like our home and I'm only about 20 minutes from a couple of boat ramps. But man....I've always wanted to live on the water. Oh well, maybe the next life.Tuscany wrote: Sat Mar 31, 2018 6:45 pmHaha, good for you Nola.nolaboater99 wrote: Sat Mar 31, 2018 2:48 pmNot sure I agree about the changes while young. The moral of this, I guess is, you do what you have to do....for your family and your own piece of mind.

The problem with water in Sw Florida is price. Water is untouchable for us. A shack on an inlet is a million dollars, which does not come with complimentary bulldozing. A nice house on the water?
.
Agree, maybe next life.

8 days later... it’s looking a little better, Tuscany.
Family just finished Easter service and on the way back, we took a drive by a boat ramp just down the street from my Mother-in-law’s house. No ice!!
(but still cold)

That's great news. A8.
There is still a lot of ice in the lake 40 miles this way, but the end of it is definitely in sight.
The controversial Ice boom that blocks ice before it enters the upper Niagara river should be coming out shortly, then it will clear in a week or so.
